And the moment you realize that if it really tried to drain him it would likely explode........ Naruto is the perfect food source for Metroids.... Then again so would Goku and the others like them...... But seriously, it would be so full after trying to feed on him it likely wouldn't move for weeks.

Taltharius [2013-10-19 22:23:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, Metroids apparently can absorb all forms of energy, hence why the X Parasites fear them; they are the ONE kind of creature that an X cannot simply takeover.Β  And with that being said, it explains the multiple variants that exist in the series (like the Tallon IV Metroid, and its Phazon Corrupted variant, the Phazon Metroid).Β  Their sole vulnerability is extreme cold; being that their membranes freeze and become brittle, then can be shattered with enough force.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

firefly00 In reply to Taltharius [2015-03-02 05:20:32 +0000 UTC]

Metroid in all their forms are very bad news for the Narutoverse: as noted, their only real weakness aside from members of the rasengan family is extreme cold... something whose weaponizing is extremely rare. Β And chakra in general is candy to them (think Yoroi, ramped up several notches).

Taltharius In reply to firefly00 [2015-03-02 07:27:33 +0000 UTC]

A reply to a comment I made 2 years ago? Ah well.

And yes, I agree. Of course, Phazon Metroids can mitigate their weakness to cold due to their intangibility power; attacks pass through them while it's in effect, Tobi-style. And of course, they can shoot lightning, and are strong enough to lift Samus in her Morph Ball form.

Phazon. It makes EVERYTHING overpowered,

firefly00 In reply to Taltharius [2015-03-02 22:51:52 +0000 UTC]

A distinction one can argue it shares with tiberium Β (along with having nasty side-effects); both make for wonderful MacGuffins.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Taltharius In reply to firefly00 [2015-03-02 23:07:45 +0000 UTC]

I never considered that, but now that you point it out... yeah.

I guess the biggest distinction is that tiberium doesn't possess the advanced sentience of Phazon. And of course, Phazon can be "express delivered" via Leviathan, launched from Phaaze, and expedited by wormhole generation.

And the planet Phaaze itself is sentient. Alive.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

firefly00 In reply to Taltharius [2015-03-10 03:15:46 +0000 UTC]

And, I find myself pondering, how would Phaaze stake up against the Beast in terms of menace potential...? Β Seems a pretty close match.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Taltharius In reply to firefly00 [2015-03-10 04:12:06 +0000 UTC]

The Beast had the Naggarok, which used an experimental hyperdrive capable of extragalactic jumps through hyperspace. This has not been witnessed in any subsequent Homeworld material outside of using all three Hyperspace Cores.

The Beast entity contained within the Naggarok had nearly 1 million years to listen to the communications chatter between the galactic civilizations, long before it was rediscovered and repaired by Taiidani Imperialists. So it not only had the infection potential, but it had the intelligence to spread itself far more efficiently than as a mindless disease alone.

Phaaze functioned as an instinctive living entity, only spreading itself when conditions were favourable to launch Leviathans from itself. Going from in game lore, its status as a galactic threat was only elevated when Dark Samus took control of the entire planet itself, using the stolen Aurora Unit 313.

By directly controlling the planet itself, Dark Samus could direct exact impact targets for any subsequent Leviathan launches, as seen with the Leviathans that impacted Bryyo, Elysia, the failed attempt against Norion, and the Pirate Homeworld. She was also able to use it as a means to control and influence anything corrupted by Phazon, as well.

Just my input, from what I know. If Dark Samus were not in control of Phaaze, the Beast would likely have a definitive edge, with the intelligence contained in the Naggarok vessel.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

firefly00 In reply to Taltharius [2015-03-10 15:15:35 +0000 UTC]

And whether or not Dark Samus is part of the equation, the contest would definitely be of the 'whoever wins, the audience is in trouble' variety. Β And given the presence of a master intellect, one can argue that a better 'match-up' for the Beast would be ST's Borg...

On another note, if you like imagining Naruto in out-of-canon-field situations... there is a family of writings wherein the actions of Konoha or its NCA (National Command Authority) - as much as Kishimoto seems to think them mere figureheads, the Elemental Countries do have heads of state - prompt Naruto to go walkabout... and eventually become head of state somewhere outside of the Elemental Countries. Β Now imagine this being the case, and his former home (or someone else in that part of the world) refuses to just let the proverbial sleeping dogs lie, necessitating what it euphemistically termed 'direct measures'. Β Now, knowing the lad's apparent gift of speechmaking when it matters... imagine him delivering an adaptation of Scolar Visari's speeches from the first two Killzone games' intro cinematics. Β Or Jack Ryan's from 'Executive Orders'.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Taltharius In reply to firefly00 [2015-03-10 15:58:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, the Beast were heavily inspired by the Borg (like so many other space-borne infection entities, really). So that's a given.

I'm just saying that Phaaze lacks the higher intelligence to really put its power to use without having Dark Samus being in control, whereas the Beast already enjoys the intelligence contained in the Naggarok vessel. So in all likeliness, if Phaaze didn't have Dark Samus as a guiding entity, it might be subverted by the Beast. But if Dark Samus is controlling the planet when the two forces collide, it may end up as a perpetual stalemate.

One weakness of the Beast is the inability to infect unmanned craft; they control subverted ships by infecting the crew, and turning them into "living circuitry" (which makes drones immune to infection by design). By using the memories of the infected crew, the Beast automatically knows how the move and use every ship they take from their enemies, as opposed to having to "learn" all the time.

Phazon, however, can permeate and corrupt seemingly any physical matter, or at least use any surface as a means to spread. Whatever isn't killed by Phazon Corruption, is simply made stronger. In a way, it's almost a selective pressure induced by Phazon; the weak are killed, while the resilient are augmented with Phazon.

It's been a while, true, but if you'd gotten your hands on the remastered games, and been saddened by the fact of the Cataclysm source code being MIA for so long... well, what was lost is now found .

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Taltharius In reply to firefly00 [2017-06-23 13:34:28 +0000 UTC]

They didn't have to make use of the actual source code, however.

firefly00 In reply to Taltharius [2015-03-03 18:15:49 +0000 UTC]

So the answer to "what, is this whole place trying to kill us?" can quite reasonably be "yes!". Β Of course, as you've likely read, tiberium can cause a variety of this too, what with its effects on ecosystems... and then there's the matter of the, shall we say, out-of-towners who might be drawn to it...
