I'd also like to take a moment to point out the large inconsistency of the fact THAT SHE WOULD BE THE ONLY PONY THIS WOULD EVEN APPLY TO!

The color difference is actually very similar to this color difference.

Not really, those are two shades of the SAME COLOR. Inky is GREY, MONOCHROME. Octavia has a bit of brown in her color.
Plus in the transition from sad boring pony to happy pony, there are two problems:
1. Octavia is nothing like Pinkie, she's a cellist and respectable member of Canterlot society, and in the fanon she's a bit of of an Ice Queen. Does she even smile in the show?
2. Grey mane to black mane. Just think about that for a minute.

To be honest, I kind of flip-flop between Inky being Pinkie's sister and Octavia being her sister. I think part of the reason is that during her first appearance Octavia gives Pinkie a sort of look that suggests that she knew her. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they're sisters. Recently I came up with this sort of fanfictiony idea that they were friends during fillyhood. Or you can go by what the Ask Octavia Tumblr says and say that they're cousins.
