it doesnt say anywhere that u hav 2 b pure blooded 2 go super saiyan 4 its a possibility here is a link to prove it first the quote: It is hypothesized by Bulma that only full-blooded Saiyans can achieve the Super Saiyan 4 form; however, it is equally plausible that the part-Saiyan children of Goku and Vegeta merely never became Golden Great Apes by sheer coincidence, and that Vegeta did not originally transform in the Baby Saga because it was Baby himself, not Vegeta, that was in control. the super saiyan transformation has nothing to do with dominant genes, their power levels were combined and whilst training in the hyperbolic time chamber (which is another dimension which explains why they atained ssj3) they became stronger allowing them to go ssj3 whilst in their fused forms

the only reason Goku went ssj3 was cuz he was in otherworld, a different dimension where his body didnt have the same limitations as it did in, another example of such a place THE HYPERBOLIC TIME CHAMBER. you know? the place where Goten and Trunks went to TRAIN for fusion
Gohan went ssj2 because he was abnormally strong and 16's death triggered it
Trunks and Goten were both able to sustain ssj for long amounts of time making them beyond ssj aka assj so when they fused they were strong enough to attain ssj3

It has to do with powerlevels, but even combined,( not fused) they werent as strong as any of the Super Saiyan to com before them. They never reached assj, it just wasnt done, they reached as far as the basic SSJ
