Early on, the heavy magical girl trope of this comic was a huge turnoff, but it's been well drawn so I stuck with it.

Since then, the storyline has actually done a remarkable job of turning those tropes into something that actually creates a BETTER friendship story than the original show manages. The connections the characters make are really quite natural (allowing for the magical girl elements) and even the demonstrations of their respective elements aren't so badly forced.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you continue to build on and improve this adaptation.

I can't vouch for others, but I don't like it for a few reasons. For one thing, it's really cliche. The big hot shot athlete falls for the amateur athlete who wants to join his team? I could look at any teen highs school movie and find the exact same thing there.

Also I think most pics and fics with it demeans Rainbow's character in some way. I just can't imagine her acting girly or lovey dovey to anyone, and SoarinDash shippers do it ALL THE TIME!

Also I think they have a very poor aesthetic visually. They're both to the same color and I don't like that.

There are other reasons, but those are my big ones. This ship just somehow managed to push every one of my shipping berserk buttons that I didn't even know I had. I'm still a pretty chill, all around shipper so it kind of annoys me that there are ships I don't like.

That said, I also hope Flash Sentry never shows up again. him.

As for your arguments against SoarinDash, there's where our views differ. You say the whole "Elite-Sports-Jock-falls-for-Rookie" shtick is cliche. I agree that it has been done before, not definitely not as hashed out as the "boy-and-girl-from-two-different-peer-groups-defy-the-status-quo-and-fall-in-love" rigamarole. Not to say that it isn't a cliche, but I don't see it often enough to annoy me too much.

I can understand you not wanting Rainbow Dash to act all girly. But not all SoarinDash pics and fics depict this gimick. I know this one fimfic writer, goes by the name of Kibbles, who really gets down Rainbow Dash's rough and tumble spirit as well as her great value for independence and brash ego, and he typically ships Rainbow Dash with Soarin in his stories.

Now, let's say you're right, that everyone who ships Rainbow Dash and Soarin envisions her as googly-eyed, girly love bird. How does that demean her character? Haven't you seen how different people act around other people that they like/love. In the show, Rainbow Dash acts like a total fangirl around the Wonderbolts, throwing her cool demeanor out the window. Why? Because she has such respect for the Wonderbolts. What's to say she wouldn't act similarly around someone she really liked, e.g. her boyfriend? She wouldn't change completely, but that's not to say she wouldn't soften up a little. I don't understand how that would demean her character.

Finally, what you say about them visually distasteful as a couple..... You're right. I would be lying if I said that it didn't bother me a little bit. But that's pretty nitpicky if you as me.

Overall, I don't see anything wrong with the SoarinDash ship. In all fairness, it's not a canon ship, so, to each his own. But rest assured, I will stand by my ship..... until it gets shot down by the writers.

Yeah I didn't read any of that because defending that ship is also a guaranteed way to really piss me off. Let's just agree to disagree and move on.
