Also, I love that expression when Fluttershy is spooked by her shadow.

The way that Rainbow and Fluttershy became friends, with the prior pulling the latter away from the side of a bridge, was interesting to read due to the more HUMAN premise behind it; and I do mean that literally. Fluttershy helping Rainbow train up until the big day also flowed very naturally from what happened before. Lightning Dust winning the child's competition was an interesting twist, since it's Rainbow's intent to wind the adult category. As for the Wonderbolt's entrances, Fleetfoot and Spitfire's were both very dynamic, and Soarin's... not so much, but it served as a nice "down-to-earth" contrast to the two of them. As for Dash's tantrum right before Soarin shows up, that was a nice way of capping things off until the next installment.
Oh, and Fluttershy's PETA hat went very well with her, especially since there was a rabbit on it.
