Description Okay, definitely didn't know the category. x_o

and I spent today working on..KEYBLADES! (And Claymore..)

Anyway, this is today's work.
Left keyblade is Way to Dawn (Riku / ) and right is Oblivion (Roxas/ me) and the right picture is for our friend John, who is going as Saix. It was his idea for Organization XIII in the first place. Meagan is kindly showing how friggen HUGE it'll be without the handle. It'll be taller than me by the time we're done. -_-
We've decided to kill him. No seriously, the con is starting on the 28, today is the 17. >>; Tomorrow is time for detail cutting.
My dad thankfully agreed to lend a hand in the sense that he gave me a saw that'll work. XD He couldn't find a coping saw that had a rounded blade so we got a regular one that could change angles 360 degrees instead. :3 I'll have more pictures tomorrow night.
Can't believe how epic this is. We've wanted keyblades for SO long. x3 Whee~!

Oh by the way, if anyone can suggest something that we can use on these? Resin eats foam apparently and we don't want to spend $100 on something similar to it. >>; Our last resort will be white glue by the boatload..
Thanks if you can help us out!

If you did end up wanting to coat it with resin, just add a few coats of acrylic paint and/or gloss. When you cover it completely, then you can add resin. For if you get similar projects in the future. ^-^

We ended up using white glue to seal the keyblades, didn't have enough time for the Claymore. We also heard that resin eats foam, and to use crystal sheen instead? White glue did the trick. I mean, it's not invincible, but it's better than nothing. Thank you!

Yay, keyblades! I used to have one myself, but it was an elementary school piece-o-crap. XD

As for finishing them, since you're making them out of foam why don't you try either taping them with something that can be painted like masking tape, or paper mache and then using spray paint?

It'd be hard to paint on tape.. o.o Idk. Maybe we'll try it lol. I was thinking of using regular acryllic paint (raiding Dollarama in like.. white, black, blue, red and yellow for all of these.. x_x) would that work or no?

I'm sure your keyblade was fairly epic at the time!

It should be no trouble at all to spray paint masking tape. and the overall look is much nicer if you use spray paint instead of acryllic.... unless you plan on doing several layers to get rid of streaks.

Hmm, suppose Meagan and I will have to conference on that one. Maybe it would be a good idea!

well I don't know if you can spray paint way to dawn's wings since they fade from red to black and white to blue though

and are we talking about the keyblade I broke on halloween? XD

No, it's the keyblade Kirstie broke on Halloween. XD

And spray paint is perfect for those fading effects, better than acryllics and much faster to use overall.
