Oohh, very nice! I love the depth of field!

Aren't close up rings awesome? I just bought myself some the other day and I can't seem to put my camera down.

Thanx !

Obviouly the DoF blur wasnt intentional but does give it a keolidoscopic effect I like.

I have put my close-up rings aside......in favor of my raynox macro lens (which adds onto the end like the rings but in one lense not 4) and THAT is totaly awesome !

I still use the closeup ring to allow me to get close but not the macro ones. I highly recommend you check out the raynox lens if you love macro and it sounds like you do - its the best money you will spend this side of a DSLR. Got mine off ebay for under £30.

Sorry - turned into a bit of an advert that :S

Thanx for comment !

Hmm... Raynox you say? I shall have to look into this.

Thanks for the extra info, I probably would have asked the cost for it anyways so it works out for the best in the end.

Yep Raynox macro adapter. They are quite expensive but ebay can provide some bargains. Mine has like a pinch mechanism to clip it to the front of the camera so you dont have to worry about size too much.

You will have to ramp up the DoF to F11+ to get as much detail as possible but you will defo notice the difference between that and the rings. Maybe I didnt test the rings enough but I found the closer you got the harder it was to get detail.

Whoops - another book

Thanks for the info! ^-^

I've noticed with the rings that if I try to get close I have to switch to manual focus instead, which tends to take a little longer to get the shot that I want.

Very true - manual better at that distance.

Dont you notice the 'rainbow' effect and more blur at the edge the close you get? I found I had to take everything in F11 and even then the blur was still quite visible.

Im not brill with manual focus - got a lot better now I have my specs sorted.

Yes! I really dislike that rainbow.

I haven't overly noticed the blur but I'm also not that perceptive at times.
One of my main problems is I'm used to doing everything handheld, so when using this camera and the rings I really have to use my tripod which makes things quite awkward. The more I use it the less awkward it's getting but I still tend to mutter profanities at it while photographing things. It's quite funny to see.

LOL - Id like to see that !

Im like a comedy sketch when using the tripod - think person completly tangled in tripod upsidedown taking pics with remote of own left foot as camera crashes to the ground, followed shortly afterwards by me.....lol.

That would be quite funny to see... Wish I could be there to photograph the entire thing.

That's great! But I think, it needs more sharpness...

MaxiiLS In reply to Randsume [2008-01-04 11:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Hard to get sharpness that close - I have since learnt that i need use F11 if im to get the best out of the focus.

Working on it.......
