Description
SO while I was doing more research on the wing's skeletal structure for this mutant, I noticed that a lot of people only mentioned the wing bones and not the scapula--the foundation of the wing. I decided to elaborate on that.So I realized that in my original design I had totally overlooked a particular bone that is very very important: The Coracoid bone.
However the coracoid for an avian would be far too long for the human body it is apart of. I looked at the coracoid of a human and saw that it was way smaller. Should I just exclude the coracoid altogether and say the original design was already complete? The one for an avian was way too big. Adding it would make folding the wings into concealment seem even more impossible and unlikely. But I still couldn't exclude it because the coracoid is designed for support of where the arm/wing connects to the scapula. Then I decided to go with the "mutated" feature. I shortened the coraciod so that it looked more like a human's, was still able to support the connection, and not stick grotesquely out. Yay!

I have a question. How strong are the avian's wings? Are they as strong as an arm or do they break easy, and what do they do if their feathers break?

Great question. There are quite a few factors involved like the person's weight, height personal bmi, and life style (ie. activity, diet, etc), but I will give you an average. Yes, the wings are strong. They have to be since they carry the body during flight. Obviously, strength will vary from individual to individual but you get the idea. For example, one of my characters works out. He does sets of pushups using his wings as an edge.
As for breaking a wing, its the same as breaking any other bone. The right amount of force/pressure will snap it.
Snapped/sliced feathers are painful, like finger nail torture. XD
