YES! Finally someone mention about the 'famous' props...!
OMG I can't stand those 'famous' stuff like Busby Chair, Broken Clock, Mirror winking or smiling at you, Toilet bowls that makes the character have the urged to buy something.
Though I don't mind it that much.
You should add : MAZES
A maze is okay for to used in a game but having it really really huge and confusing can be really stressful.

After reading your first hetagame guide, I read this. I have to admit, mapping and decorating are my weakness and sometimes I can't control the size, lack of decoration, or fall to the perfect nature. I guess I need more practice.
Anyways, thank you for making this. It helps a lot.

Nice guide~
Very helpful first insight for beginner Heta-game developers~ I'll showΒ the link to this guideΒ on my hetalia fb page.
Maybe for future guides go a bit in depth for beginner artists concerning locations and foliage. (Environmental and Character Artist at school)

I've always considered map making to be one of the harder things to do when making a game. Β The story you are making has to literally surround the map after all. Β One of the cheapest ways to fill up a room is just to add walls and make a small room inside a bigger room >.>
I'm better at trying to organize scripts than actual designing...

Everything comes with practice and passion, trust me! If you asked me 3 months ago, I'd say I suck at painting and wouldn't be able to draw anything, and today I'm drawing my own game characters
Like one wise person said not a long ago, just DO IT! XD

There are anti-lagging script so this is also a solution for lagging.

Here's another topic to cover, switches and events. I get writer's block from it and seen plenty of games crash because of it.Β

Scripting is a very huge topic to cover, especially for the fact that it applies to absolutely every single rpg maker game. Maybe I'll review it one day, but I'm afraid it won't be that soon

It is possible for developer to use them without scripts. It is just a matter how much they are willing to push the envelope.

Very helpful and well-made guide as always. I really appreciate your hints as map-making is an area where I definitely need improvement for my hetagame
I don't think that anyone else mentioned it yet, but another topic for discussion and something that I don't like too much, are characters which don't belong to the Hetalia universe. Now, I'm not talking about cross-overs, like if the game is a mix between Hetalia and Pokemon, then it's understandable to see characters from both anime. Also I'm not talking about OC, like countries that haven't been created by the Himaruya yet or specific cities. The thing that I'm talking about are complete unknown and unheard of characters. Like when all of a sudden all Hetalia countries seem to know and talk about this "Jonathan" or "Philippa" or this person like they've known them since forever. Of course, if done well with a proper integration as well as moderation, it's completely fine. But when in Hetagames you start to encounter all these random people which you're suddenly supposed to bond with, I find hard to believe. As I said, an original character with a PURPOSE and meaning and introduction in the story or even more than one, it's fine. But when you get spammed with too many invented characters, then I start to think whether I'm playing a HetaGame or not. I hope you understand my point through my rambling XD

Thank you very much! Glad it helped you
Yeah, I totally understand your point. And I agree with everything you said. Since Hetlia consists mostly from nations, it's hard to make an entire sory only with these nations (for example, one doesn't want to make any nation an antagonist). If done properly, any OC can be an excellent addition to the plot. I'll discuss it in a guide about how to use characters better. Thank you for the suggestion

I very much like your guides. I knew quite a bit of these to begin with but now I know about lag and what causes it. Which is good and one of the many reason I think I never got lag while making/playing through my games. Because I don't use animations, dynamic lighting or have very large maps (I actually sketch out my maps beforehand so I get a rough idea.)
I think what helps me most on this is the decoration and outdoors part. I have noticed that my trees are a little symmatical but my rocks and flowers are rather 'natural'. Thanks for the tips!
And if I could suggest, could you make a guide about using Hetalia references in games? I do like seeing them every now and then but overuse of it does both me. Like Busby's chair, or Russia's "Become one with Mother Russia" line. They get a tad annoying after a while and constantly seeing them in games.

MaxUnique In reply to 13-night-hour [2016-02-01 08:42:56 +0000 UTC]
Here's how I make natural scenery: I use circle tool to place trees and then add some pencil-tool trees near that circle (and even connecting to the circle) to make it both random and cluster-like (because, obviously, having single trees being spread around isn't that much of a result you should be looking for).
Well, in my opinion, the best way to implement Hetalia canon in the story is to give it an actual role in the story. I mean, make an actual purpose for a standard line or an element to appear in your game, not as some kind of an easter egg.
A great example is Escape from Siberia. In that game Russia repeats his "becoming one" line multiple times, but this is not a simple catchphrase of him, it's an idea that moves the plot as that's the actual conflict in the game: he tries to connect all nations with himself. So the line has a purpose.
So if you wish to add a reference to Hetalia only as an easter egg without a purpose, pick something that hasn't been used or overused already. Else make a plot purpose for it.
And thank you for reading the guide, I'm happy it helped you :3
