Description Soo...

I watch Game Grumps sometimes, right?
Well, They played a Monster High game (Ross and Suzie) and for whatever reason I saw their actually-adorable character as.. like.. an evil overlord???

So yeah, there she is.

Like many other artists this week, I gave her some Undertale (it's a game) references to the skeleton bros Sans and Papyrus... Uh... Spoilers, below, I guess...

**************SPOILER***************
You have been warned.

So I kinda thought of her as pretty evil, like.. really evil because I'm into that, or whatever.... So... While other artists have been drawing her as dating Papyrus or just being cure... I put Papyrus' "soul" entrapped in her chair. In addition to that, since she had blue eyes, I thought it'd be cool to give her Hero Sans' eye-glowy-ness. So one of her eyes is her/his blue and the other is his yellow.

That's all.

**************END SPOILER***************

Done up in Photoshop! I also made a gif of the process which you can spot over on my Twitter

All things considered, it didn't take me too long! Maybe 6-9 hours? I did it over the course of 3 days and had a one hour Photoshop-fighting-me session, so IDK an exact.

Here is my layer hierarchy, for the curious

Reminds me a little of the pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean when the moon shines on them. I like her design

So... she has lips and breasts and face flesh, but everywhere else is bone... how does that work?

Fantasy is a wonderful thing, haha.

I drew her based off a let's play/YouTube/game, so I'm sure in that case some of those design features were streamlined for character generation in the game.

But I mean, when you get down to it, a lot of fantasy, mystical and alien creatures don't quite work physically/anatomically if you think about them hard enough.

In my case, I was just having fun extrapolating the character and giving her a considerably more intense presence.

It's still a little weird I guess.

Yeah, I also really like the pose I don't know too much about the character, but she does seem rather languid and at home in her throne.

With the way you've approached this, or like like you're hoping to go somewhere semi-realistic. So I'll just put my two cents in with that in mind.

Something that might be worth noting is that things tend to get less saturated the further away they are from a light source, in such a dark environment, I'd recommend leaving the most vivid colours for where the light is hitting the most. at the moment, her bright and light hair and shirt are in such contrast to the background, it's as if they're emitting light, rather than reflecting it. If having glowy hair and shirt was your intention, you'd want to have that light lighting up, and possibly changing the colour of, the chair and any other nearby objects.

Shadows also tend to be coloured and not black, maybe try shading with a deep purple or blue rather than grey or black and see how much it can make things pop I haven't yet figured out why shadows are certain colours, but I think it might have to do with the shadow being the opposite colour of what is lit? It's something I need to look into further haha.

Overall cool work and cool concept Its nice to see that you've placed the character within a background that adds to the meaning we get from the image.

Thanks for the comment!

With typical shading I try to do exactly that but I guess I went halfway between trying this new process I elarned about. The process is to shade the entire image in a greyscale and then use that layer over the coloring layer, which comes next. I considered changing the grey to a purple/blue after but then liked the dark-darkness of it.

I also hadn't initially intended it to be so dark, but then fell in love with it once it happened, so I can see what you mean about the glowing look. I think, given the character design, the hair is probably best as looking glowy, since it's just so stark compared to the rest of her, but I can see how the shirt's appearance is a bit of a detractor.

I wasn't trying for super-realisticness, but in general these are good things to keep in mind! Since she didn't really take me that long to make, I might play with that a bit tonight!

Thanks again! You're the best! <3

No worries Yeah, sometimes I do use greyscale before laying down flats to get an idea of the values I want first, but I generally go over it and try and match the colours to the greys, which ends up taking more time, not less haha.

If you do end up fiddling with it some more, I'd be keen to see what you come up with .

If I fiddle with it and end up liking it I'll probably update her to reflect that (rather than upload two)

I wanted to toy with it last night but then felt like POOP so I didn't get to +_+ maybe tonight or tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it?

I STILL FELT LIKE POOP (and then got mad at myself for it)

Today I'm going to try making simple necklaces to add to my etsy though so, lets see how that goes.

Oh dang, feel better. I've just been in a reclusive headspace this week so it's been bleh. Though I'm managing to organize my art space a little right now, so that's a start.

Hope you feel better tomorrow, too.

I'm not familiar with the game or the character, but I really like this.

The pose is awesome, and definitely reminiscent of a movie villain or evil king who is lounging around in his court longing for his next conquest.  I did have to do a double take initially, I could have swore she was smoking a cigarette at first glance, but it was just the way she was holding her hand beneath the glowing eye.

Nice shading and highlights, especially the fine detailing of the hair, I wish I could get my hair looking half that good!

One thing that I did find amusing, was her ample bosom, I'd have figured a skeleton to be flat chested, but I guess that was all part of the original characters design.

Overall great work!

Haha, thanks! Yeah I couldn't tell based on the video if she had boobs or if it was just the shirt playing tricks on my eyes, but I felt like she needed a little something. That's also why her torso isn't convex and has some shape to it.

The smoking thing is a good point. I hand't initially planned to make her eye glow, so that could be part of the issue. She was supposed to be flicking her short hair, then I had inspiration and adjusted it in the coloring. I suppose I can play with the transparency a little to make that more obvious.

But yeahhh! I wanted her to look evil so the fact that she gives you that vibe is perfect!

Thanks again!
