Finally tutorial came, after I've promised a few month ago. Indeed I intend to pose this tutorial last week for 50,000 pageviews thank you, but I'm very busy so I pose it this week instead. This is my first tutorial, there could be something wrong I have to apologise in this place. I searched every where on mine and I still dont understand what you mean...TT_TT so if you can help some...or describe it more to me (or us if there are others who dont understand) then........I would greatly appreciate it!!!

Wooow i didnt ever think of converting the path to an object.........
...they didn't teach us that in illustrator class >_>..
CURSE you illustrator class!
They taught us to do "Pseudo strokes" which is where you actually COPY the shape and move it down and left like 2 pixels.. to create the effect.. kinda cheap in my opinion..
I'll have to try this

This is an awesome tutorial!! And if I could draw using pencil and paper, I'd try it out; but since I can't draw unless I have a mouse...yeah. But it does look awesome!!

I was wondering if you were using Illustrator to ink your CG's cause your CG linework always looked supersmooth.
Does Illustrator CS have that convert ink to vector path option?

This function to converted scan pictures is CS2 only.

Tutorial is too small. Also explanation isn't the best. You should practice on making tutorials before posting them.

It's a great tutorial my friend...i don't see many tutorials for Illustrator, there should be more of such on this site.I tried the trial version of Adobe Illustrator but couldn't do much on it since i didn't know how to work on it.I really have to get me this program for much easier lineart...
Now the last thing i only need is to learn to sketch better..
The only program that i had excellent sketching was openCanvas but i can't find or get the serial key..uff...

Good tutorial~!
However, besides the advantage that vector has over pixel when it comes to smooth curves, the pen-tool in photoshop should be able to to about the same job, right? o.O
So all that other work around with exporting here and there can be avoided...I think ^^' I've never used Illustrator much, can't really work with that program. I use pen-tool in Photoshop pretty much though : 3

Using Photoshop for vectors is like using Photoshop for word processing.
It just wasn't meant to be.

Shaw-exe In reply to TheAnimaster [2008-07-25 09:06:25 +0000 UTC]
Nah, Photoshop shouldn't be used to vectoring, but if you're not out to make vectors, just lineart, the photoshop pen-tool might be a worthy challenger to the one of Illustrator.

TheAnimaster In reply to Shaw-exe [2008-07-26 16:38:10 +0000 UTC]
Illustrator is still better at line art. Photoshop is better at colouring and effects.

Shaw-exe In reply to TheAnimaster [2008-07-26 22:19:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, the illustrator lineart will probably end up cleaner looking I guess but it might be possible in PS too, if you find a good brush that is (which is hard).
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TheAnimaster In reply to Shaw-exe [2008-07-27 12:57:47 +0000 UTC]
The thing about Illustrator is that you have more control over the lines so it just makes sense to use it for lineart, where you'll be needing to edit lines often. Otherwise Photoshop's pen tool is a real vector tool as well and the results can be pretty much the same (it's just the underlying structure that differs). General line manipulation is much easier in Illustrator and there are some functions that are impossible in Photoshop (for example, cutting a path midsection and joining endpoints).
