It's important to bear in mind with more recent Manticoran designs that ship classes are based in the RMN on role rather than size. What size it takes to fill the role they have in mind with the technology they bring to bear against the opposition they expect to face is growing - a marked contrast to centuries of very slow change in naval practice. The Roland stands out even then, given the radically different missile firing arrangement and the internal rearrangement it demands. Those hammerheads are purely boggling if you don't know how the missiles come out.

Nice comparison. The Roland really stands out as big tough and nasty compared to the other older destroyer classes; and after what we saw five of them do at Saltash in Shadow of Freedom they seem all the more badass.

Yeah, even the rest of the guys in BuNine were a little surprised at the size of her compared to the older DD's, even though it was their line art I was working from.
