Oof - here's a blast from the past. I've been working on a lot on solidifying Ethan's design this week, and realized that I drew the very first picture of him four years ago (almost exactly). Decided to look up the image and choked. I always worry that I'm not improving at a pace I'm happy with, as we'll have a few months pass with only minor differences, but then I looked back at this one and realized that I've come a LONG way in four years (for instance - their forearms are no longer almost as big around as their waists. Not sure where Popeye-syndrome came from but I'm glad I got out of it. )

Apparently the reason I couldn't draw him was because I wasn't drawing him being an absolute nuisance.
(Sam will be a chaos gremlin when she has to interact with people but generally prefers to do her own thing. Ethan will seek people out to wreak havoc upon. Stick them together and they became the scourge of the Senate.)

While I still need to get better at drawing him, I think I have finalized his design. (In flashbacks he'll be clean shaven with a labret piercing, but in the actual story timeline this is what he looks like.)

Despite the skill difference, this feels like my old art. The character interaction, the expressions, and just...the feel to it. Back when I used to draw nothing but Sam and Gabriel. And honestly, I kind of missed that feeling in my art. I haven't done just line art in an eternity since fineliners are so expensive (all of my work either gets fully coloured or stays as a sketch), but I grabbed a couple of Stabilo Point 88s and they're not only cheap but also the size and feel I like to work with, so hopefully I'll be able to do more linework in the future.
