Day 21 - Walrus
~While this species is well equipped for the cold water, they still enjoy basking in the sun's heat while resting on ice flows.~

Walrus is one I've wanted to do for a while but felt like I couldn't do justice to them. Unfortunately for this one I ended up putting the skin tone darker than I intended (I still wanted dark, but not this shade of dark, and she should have had far more yellow undertoning) and so the rest of the piece was me scrambling to work around that, and I ended up using a lot more pencil crayon than I normally like to, and in the end it has a far more feathered/blurry feel than my normal crisp lines I aim for. I don't hate it, but it's not what I was hoping for.

This was my first day without masking film and I came THIS CLOSE to forgetting it wasn't there and just painting completely over her in my first background stroke. It was close. Oof. So I definitely accidentally got some background blue on her in a few areas, but it could have been far worse.

Had a hard time trying to figure out the pose for this one. Same with the hair. And the shading. All in all I'm still really dizzy and could not for the life of me conceptualize today.

Three weeks in, despite my best efforts (or, in all likelihood, due to them), I am definitely starting to get a little mermed out. I was going strong, but having the BPPV and masking film incident start up in the same day has definitely taken some wind from my sails. We have 10 days to go. Let's see if we can still finish strong, eh?

Done with Copic markers, Ecoline liquid watercolor, and Polychromos on bristol board.
