I really like the gradient you used in the hair, and how you added the shine to the metal.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun with the gradients! I'm slowly getting the hang of metal. Midorihana's Copic texture guide book has been helping me a lot.

I never got the hang of metal (even in digital), but I hope to some day. I used to love playing with Copics, but a lot of the blending things I've tried don't seem to work. I honestly think that my blender is defective, it seems to separate the pigments and turns thing splotchy. o.O;

Yeah, the colourless blender isn't actually for blending things, despite the name. (I mean, it DOES help for blending super light pastels to white, but that's about it for its blending capacity). It's used for pushing the ink around, so if you go outside your lines you can use it to push the overlay back to where it's supposed to be, or for adding super light areas (I actually used the blender here to make his white freckles!). It's REALLY useful for lightening areas that get too dark (as long as you do it while it's still wet; otherwise you can get the cauliflowering effect like watercolours can give)., as well as intentionally creating harsh edges.

I've tried that with it too, and followed multiple tutorials. Mine seems to separate the inks rather than push them around. For example, if I try to use it with one of my yellow markers, it starts making splotches of a much lighter yellow and an orangy-red. I tried using it for blending (following a tutorial) and for pushing spill over (followed two tutorials for that one) and it did not react the way it was supposed to. I tried dry ink, and fresh ink with the same results. It was really weird. o_O

That does sound strange. It may be your paper? What paper are you using? I find the blender works fantastic on my Strathmore marker paper (which is quite thick) but on the Canson marker paper (which is very thin but the back is coated to prevent bleedthrough) I get entirely different results.

I've used Copic marker paper, multiple kinds of sketch book paper, and even tried watercolor and inkjet.

That is so strange. I wish I could help, but I honestly am not sure what could be causing it to act so differently. Even using standard rubbing alcohol (99.9%) will work the same as a blender. Could it be something behind the paper? I've occasionally used the blender when my paper was sitting on something with ink on it and it pinked up the ink from the surface and carried it through the paper?

It's definitely not anything behind the paper, since I've used it on different surfaces with the same results. I should try just alcohol idea and see what happens. Thank you.
