Chapter 1

You would never forget the look on his face when he reminded you of the day. It was painful, for you shared many adventures with him, shed tears for him, and had restless nights over his well-being.

He had made you swear an oath before you were allowed to battle him, on your first meeting.

In a place known as Cerulean Cave, you had met him. You were told by people on your journey of a powerful and elusive creature that claimed the cave which no trainer dared to enter.

It was this encounter that would begin your fateful meeting with your most promising friend.

He kept himself secluded in the cold damp environment, where there was no light to endure past the entrance to shine upon his rest.

You remembered how dark it was, and how your Rapidash blazed a glorious radiance to create light for your weak human eyes to see in the dark. He was not what you expected to find.

Mewtwo sat in a dark corner, waiting. His eyes were transfixed on your determined gaze, and he turned to stare at your Rapidash.

"A brilliant light emits from your horse, a flame so bright that it creates shadows within my cave. I applaud your strength, trainer. It takes a strong will to come seek me within my territory. Know that I will only give you one warning to turn back. I show no mercy towards my enemies."

You had heeded his warning, but did not accept the offer, "I never show weakness."

He nodded at your statement, before standing in his spot, and his large violet tail casually rested at his feet.

"Choose your first companion to face me."

You glanced at your Rapidash, knowing that your horse would not be a wise choice, for she emitted the light within the cave, and you needed to see in order to fight.

A black and yellow Ultra Ball was removed from your belt, and you summoned your Totodile to the battle.

Mewtwo dropped his guard, and blinked at you. He was no longer holding a serious face, but made a chuckle at your choice.

"A small pipsqueak to battle me? I feel insulted..." he said with a small smirk.

You were not smiling, and directed your blue crocodile to bite Mewtwo.

The small Totodile opened his mouth, with large fangs protruding. Mewtwo did not feel threatened.

Your crocodile then quickly rushed forward, making Mewtwo blink once more in shock over your pet's speed.

"Little creature?" he sighed in annoyance, "I find you wasting my time."

Mewtwo's foot quickly lifted up before placing it on the snout of a rapid looking Totodile. Your Totodile could not move forward, and was held in place by Mewtwo's very large foot.

"I find you are boring me," Mewtwo sighed, "Why not use your Rapidash? That horse looks like a worthy opponent."

You said nothing, but returned your Totodile after realizing that Mewtwo would not be willing to battle it.

Your next ball was chosen, and you sent out another Pokemon.

"Finally," Mewtwo sighed in exasperation, "I was beginning to think that you were playing with me."

A Rattata was your choice, and it growled at Mewtwo.

"I very much enjoy rat Pokemon," Mewtwo said with a smile, "Are you going to give me a free lunch?"

The Rattata decided that Mewtwo was a large threatening cat, and your rat whined before rushing back within its ball.

"Why are you not taking me seriously?" Mewtwo growled, and began to pace in his spot, "I will not participate in your games!"

You then smiled at Mewtwo, before holding up another ball, "I wasn't playing games," you finally spoke and threw a Master Ball.

Mewtwo glared at you after realizing he was too close to the ball, and had no time to react.

"I just wanted to see what kind of personality you had," you grinned.

Mewtwo growled before the ball hit his head, and his essence was captured within a red light, before it was locked within the ball.

You knew that Mewtwo did not like you bringing up the past, finding it to be embarrassing. You were not the first trainer to enter his cave and challenge him, but you were the first to taunt him.

A grin was on your face when you thought about the look he gave you, it was a belittling promise of pain within his glare after he growled at you.

He now stood as your most important friend in the world, and he waited for you to release him.

The quest that you had was a secret, and for the longest time you held it from him. Mewtwo was very patient, and knew you would tell him eventually.

You sought his help in order to locate Xerneas, the life giving Pokemon. Mewtwo did not understand why you would seek the creature, until you gave in and told him.

"I lost someone very dear to me," you told Mewtwo, who looked at you quietly.

"Who?" Mewtwo asked, and he placed one of his three fingered hands on your shoulder.

"My boyfriend," you sobbed, before wrapping your hands around yourself, "he was killed by Team Rocket after he refused to join them."

Mewtwo remained silent and allowed you to cry, but he realized that your wish to find Xerneas would be wasted, for the great Pokemon would not give life back to your deceased love.

Xerneas never granted your wish, and it was then that you raged, becoming an angry person who wanted to destroy. You were a powerful trainer, who happened to use cunning and wit to defeat your enemies. Mewtwo knew of your tactics, and your desire to not show weakness.

You were only a strong trainer by determination, not of experience. He realized that you were indeed using your actual Pokemon that were not powerful to meet his standards of strength, but you were lucky enough to catch him off guard and used a Master Ball to ensnare him.

Because of your determination, he allowed you to keep him within your company. You did not know that your willpower must be strong in order to hold Mewtwo, even though he was inside the Master Ball, the moment you let him out he could just as easily destroy it.

You never thought much about why he allowed you to keep him, but he wanted you to release him when the day came, after you found Xerneas.

There was nothing left for you after realizing you could not bring your lover back. He was lost.

You were quiet, with tears staining your face as you released Mewtwo from the Master Ball.

"My promise," you said with a blank expression on your face, "I was never meant to be a trainer, let alone hold you."

He was your most important friend, and you did not allow yourself to cry.

Mewtwo remained quiet, and stared at you while your tears refused to fall.

"Your wish was never granted," he said softly to you.

"Of course," you spoke bitterly, "there is no reason to hold you within that ball. I am not strong enough to train you, let alone keep you."

You became an angry and self hating person after your encounter with Xerneas. Your days searching and crying over locating the majestic beast were wasted.

"Your wish cannot be granted," the blue and black colored deer spoke with a harmonious voice.

"Why?" you screamed at the Pokemon, "I found you! Give him back to me!"

The deer shook his head, "I can't."

Your face was tear stained, and you grabbed your hair and pulled it out bits by bits.

"You have all you need within your life," the deer was then quiet, slowly leaving you and an observing Mewtwo alone in the forest.

A gasp left your throat over your angry cry, with your hands suddenly relaxed before slamming the ground.

Blood stains colored your knuckles as you looked at Xerneas with helplessness.

"Please..."

Mewtwo was saddened by the memory of your quest to find the life giving beast, only to have it refuse your wish.

"What will you do?" Mewtwo asked you, as you remained quiet in your spot.

He missed the bright look in your eyes when you traveled together, but in the end it was the false hope that strung your heart together, and he was the final piece that kept you from falling apart.

"Die," you said quietly, "I'll stop eating, stop breathing, and finally find him again..."

Mewtwo growled at your ignorant rambling, before smacking you in the head.

"WHAT THE HELL?" you shrieked, and tears finally fell from your eyes.

"You're a foolish girl!" Mewtwo growled at you, "Stop being irrational!"

"What the hell am I suppose to do?" you cried to him, "I'm a horrible trainer!"

"But you are a good friend!" Mewtwo yelled back.

He roughly pulled you towards him within a hug, and rubbed your back.

"This isn't you," he whispered softly, "During this time together I realized that the stupid human I was with had some potential."

"I'm not stupid," you muttered in his chest.

"Yes, you are," he replied, "I know you... you should not give up like that."

"I have no one," you told him.

"You do," he said, "Look to your Rapidah, your Totodile, and that annoying little Rattata..."

"And you," was your finished remark to his statement.

"Now," he calmly said, "I said I wanted my freedom."

You grunted before waving your hand dismissively, "You can have it."

"I never said I wanted to leave."

You blinked a few times, just like when you met Mewtwo after you tricked him with your Pokemon choices, "What...?"

"Remove that horrible Master Ball, release me from it, and I will remain."

"Why...?" you asked, with your mouth open.

"You are a dear friend to me," Mewtwo replied, "I realized now that Xerneas was right."

You turned away from Mewtwo after he spoke of the incident with the deer Legendary.

The psychic cat's hand grabbed your chin and forced you to look back towards him.

"You always have me..."
