OK... I tried my hands at Chinese caligraphy watercolor painting...... This is just a practice.... (60% a copy of another's popular composition)

The caligraphy in this piece is unplanned.... OTL (which means it's bad) so don't go there... I don't even like it myself.

Maybe the previous experience in watercolor helped.
I think alot of things can be worked on in this piece, but i just want to show it here for now, adding to my gallery some variety.
I wish to continue practice and bring out better works of my own later.

Even though I live in Taiwan, I don't see much of this kind of stuff around here, too modern nowadays XD
It's always nice to see these kinds of drawings once in a while =3

I hope you will continue to work in this medium. Your trees are quite lovely. I am attempting to learn the brush strokesfor Chinese painting. I do not know enough about the proper papers to use, but have purchased a couple of instructional books. Keep up the goo work!

Interesting, the tree itself is stronger than the caligraphy.

I told my dad that you were a newbie and he said he was really impressed with your tree. He just said the writing wasn't too good ^^b. Also, he said that the smudges need to be fixed but overall he was impressed even for the fact that it was just practice. He was surprised that someone who had just started on calligraphy could do so well. I told him to go easy on you XD..so he didn't say too much but you really did well on the branches, the leaves (my parents thought it was the winter tree...you know the one with pink leaves), and the base of the tree. Well done

O>O thanks. I am glad to hear such positive fee back from him. Well, I think my previous experience with watercolor helped on my work. I practiced watercolor since middle school. The words... yes they are messed up. XD I know, I tried not to fix it.... OTL

good to see use of other media and styles, and something to consider for mixing with other pics in the furture to create new textures and illustrations. i think just having your red name stamp in the corner would of been enough if you didn't have to write your name on it. (fark haven't used my name stamp for years)

i'm amazed at both of your calligraphy skills. i tried bamboo once -__-'' didn't come out too good. neither did the crab i tried X_x

mayshing In reply to kidokaproject [2004-10-02 19:36:05 +0000 UTC]

caligraphy and Chinese painting goes hand in hand, also the knowledge of watercolor is a big impact. ^^ I had some experience with watercolor... so its not too bad to adopt into this.

Try brushing steady straight line first before you do bamboo, have your whole arm in the air and see how well u do.

kidokaproject In reply to mayshing [2004-10-02 22:42:04 +0000 UTC]

XD guess so, thanks for de advice. o yea! i have a question though, u know for your comic edepth? do u draw every single page in order, or have u ever skipped around to different scenes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mayshing In reply to kidokaproject [2004-10-04 04:59:27 +0000 UTC]

yes I have... this scene in chapter 3 is done 2003, but chapter 2 is done at 2004 spring. How ironic, huh? ^^
But I tend to do things in order if I can. It flows better.
If the ideas come at weird times, I just write/draw them down as quick sketches, and later arrange all the events and happenings. :3

Wow, I was wondering when you were going to start doing calligraphy paintings XD. So nicely done, I will ask my dad later for crit but you catch on so quickly. That's an interesting style of calligraphy that you used in contrast with the piece, i've never seen that style used in a painting. nice job i'll fav

Very nice, there are lots of prints similar to this one at my fav Chinese restaurant that I go to every week - I like to just sit and stair at them - I really enjoy this style of painting.

Nice work, especially for a practice.

my mom used to say: "There is no hard things in this world, except for your mind."

If you really would like to try something, try to get the material and try it. ^_^ That's all it takes to be multi-talented.
