Edit: I am Austrian. You don't need to explain the differences to me, I'm well aware of them.
Wanna know a great way to piss an Austrian off?
Random Stranger: You speak German! YOU'RE FROM GERMANY!
Austrian: No, I'm not. I'm from Austria.
Random Stranger: But you speak GERMAN!
Austrian: Yeah, well, we kinda have the same language.
Random Stranger: So... AUSTRIA IS THE SAME AS GERMANY!
Austrian: HELL NO IT'S NOT!
Time for a stamp! Because I had a lot of conversations like that whenever I went abroad or talked to people on the internet who noticed that I speak German. And I know from friends and family that stuff like that not only happens to me... 8D I once even had to convince someone that Austria is not just a federal state of Germany. WTF?! Go get yourself an atlas before spouting nonesense like that!
And I know other countries share our sad fate. According to my former irish host mum the Irish hate nothing more than being compared to the British, but it apparently happens a lot...

Finally, someone made a stamp.
Altough both nations speak german there are a lot of differences. Sometimes even the vocabulary is different. I once went to Kassel (Germany) for a trip and people had a hard time understanding me.

lol, I know. Paradeiser = Tomate, Karotte = Möhre etc. etc. And my absolute favourite: Topfen = Quark ("Quark" is the most terrible word ever! That's not even a word in my opinion, it's a sound a frog or duck makes... >_>; )
German people usually don't understand me either, except for people from Bavaria.
