Description
The Grim Reaper watches with delight as life continues its count down. The only question that remains is not whether or not he will pay you a visit, but when. This inedible death needs no encouragement, especially not when it comes to tobacco products.
This is my first submission for "The Make Ugly Contest"

I originally started with a Wacom Bamboo Fun, which was great for starting off, but than I got an Asus EP 121 Eee slate (which I am still using now). Drawing on the actual screen took some time to get used to, but it works really well, and the portability is top notch. My one qualm is the battery life, but overall it works great!

I'd like to do a review on my Asus EP, especially since I didn't really see any reviews on it from a digital artist's point of view. However, right now I just too busy. But maybe sometime.
For now I can say that it is great for me, and I would highly recommend it... if mine breaks, I'm definitely getting another one, or something like it.

On the plus side of things, it is a system in and of itself, so portability is pretty much awesome. It is definitely a powerful enough system to run Photoshop effectively. It can also run Sculptris (a free 3d sculpting program) but will sometimes slow down while doing so. It does come with a pen that I think works well, but only has the tip and eraser as far as buttons go.
On the negative side it only has about 250 levels of pressure sensitivity, which is about half of what the Wacom Bamboo Fun has, and eight times less then a Cintiq or Intous have. That said, I can't say that I've really noticed the difference or had any problems with that. The battery life is about two hours, which isn't great, but is enough to doodle a bit on the road or whatever.
My main concern when I bought mine was, will this be good enough to make serious art? And while it might not be on par with what most professionals use, I think it's a great system for making digital art.

I can't say that I'm familiar with that program, but it does come with Art Rage... I think that's what it's called.
But again, I just use Photoshop.

Both the video and picture were created with my Asus EP 121 Eee slate just to let you know.

What do you think about the intuos wacom 5 large?

McJohnArt In reply to DanielBitzane [2013-05-31 03:04:26 +0000 UTC]
I can't really comment since I haven't tried it, but I'll do my best.
From what I've heard, an Intuos is like an upgraded Bamboo Fun, more levels of pressure sensitivity, some sort of tilt sensitive function etc.
I've heard that some professional artists prefer the Intuos oppose the Cintiq, so I would guess that it is a solid choice, it just depends on what you get used to.
The main reason that I decided to get my Asus EP 121 Eee Slate is because I wanted to try drawing on the actual screen, and so far am really glad I tried it.

$644.99 for the Asus EP is the price that I just got from ebay, but I did not really check into it, except for the fact that it said "New". I got mine refurbished from ebay for about $500.00, and my only concern is that since it's refurbished, it's batter life might die out faster.
So yeah, if you get a good deal it's around $500.00 refurbished.

Is it easier to draw directly on the screen like your doing? That was my worry was that i would spend all this money and not get used to it >.>

There is definitely a learning curve, but for me it was much easier going from my Bamboo Fun to my Asus EP than going from paper and pencil to my Bamboo Fun.
Drawing on the screen seems to give me more confidence.
I was drawing out sketches of what I wanted, and then scanning it in to work with it digitally. But now that I'm drawing on the actual screen, I've been doing everything digitally, for most of my pictures, like this one.
So I'd have to say it is easier for me.

Thanks , I did this one with Photoshop CS3.
A while ago I was working with Photoshop 7.0, and so far their pretty much the same when it comes to digital drawing.

As far as making art like this goes, just keep pursuing art.
If you are thinking digital art is something you might like, then give it a try.
I had no idea what I was doing when I first started, but eventually got the hang of it.

And since I like to believe that there are some actually GOOD people out there I donβt think he did! I think he's just a very talented artist who is sharing his art with the world!
I canβt stand people like you!

Look I'm sorry for getting all worked up, but when you just say "I doubt he made it' It sounds a lot like you are saying that he stole it from some one! And that ticks me off when he clearly didnt. I'm sorry you meant something totaly different but it's hard to read other people's thoughts on the internet!
And I dont understnad why you were getting bent out of shape about the program, I was just curious!
But, I have to agree with you on one notion, and that is that he should win, hands down.
