well i guess it depends on the friends and the kind of gathering... sometimes i have some interests i don't share with my friends (or vice-versa), so if they go out doing things i'm not into, they know it's useless to ask me to join and i know they don't ask for that reason

Or they could just be hanging out randomly or wanted to do something with just the two of them. Doesn't mean they won't invite you out later. I'd only worry if it was a large group of friends that you normally hang out with but they all met up and didn't tell you/invite you and you found out by chance. Then I'd question it. But sometimes a pair of friends will want to spend time together without the rest of their squad; sometimes you are one in that pair, other times you aren't. It's not something to get upset over. *pat pat*
