Description
Rail map of Equestria (the setting of the series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic), styled after the London Underground Map. Idea and basic design by . Basis of the map was the Geographic Map of Equestria by , of which I kept the coastlines (with adjustments), the compass rose, the relative positions of cities and landmarks, the neat way of designating pegasus cities, and the general paths of railroads and rivers. This was supplemented by the WeLoveFine map by , which added a connection between Tall Tale and Vanhoover that I thought was sorely lacking in the official map that drew from. The Celestia and Luna symbol came from a Equestrian flag vector by .

The source map provided the positions of all of the geographical locations and the following 16 cities and landmarks: Appleoosa, Applewood, Baltimare, Canterlot, Cloudsdale, Crystal Empire, Dodge City, Dodge Junction, Fillydelphia, Hollow Shades, Los Pegasus, Luna's Ruin, Manehattan, Ponyville, Tall Tale and Vanhoover. I added an additional 15 cities taken from the Locations page on the Friendship Is Magic wiki. Here is a list, along with my rationales for why I placed them where I did:

Bitsburgh: Put it in roughly the location of Pittsburgh.

Griffonstone: There is a still from The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone where Twilight is reading from her history book, that quite clearly shows the Castle Map and the location of Griffonstone (with southeast at the top of the screen). This shows a new continent right off the eastern shore of Equestria, housing the Griffon Kingdom. This continent comes closest to Equestria in the vicinity of Baltimare. Therefore, I assume that Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash took a ferry or boat across the ocean, then boarded a griffon-run railroad to finish the journey.

Pinto Creek: Mentioned in Appleoosa's Most Wanted as the site of a rodeo shut down by Troubleshoes. As that gave me no clue where to place it, I picked a location at random.

Hoofington: As Boast Busters placed this as the location of Trixie's ursa major story, I put this town on the edge of the Everfree.

Mustangia: A throwaway place name from Games Ponies Play, where Ms. Peachbottom hails from. She had a midwestern-American kind of accent, so I plunked Mustangia down in the middle of midwestern Equestria.

Neighagra Falls: Location dictated by the placement of Neighara Lake.

Our Town: The scene in The Cutie Map when this location is approached emphasized a long tunnel, so I picked the one west of Manehattan in 's map.

Rainbow Falls: The eponymous episode only showed that it was in a mountainous region and that it's a major train stop. The fanfic "Ponyville, USA" by Rox puts it in the northwest, so I decided to go along with that and put it in the McCloud Highlands.

San Flankcisco: Put it in the rough location of San Francisco.

Seaddle: Tall Tale is sort of sitting where Seattle should be, so I picked the nearest location where I could stick a city, and gave it to Seaddle.

Tenochtitlan Basin: I followed the map sequence in Daring Don't very carefully, and it definitely ended up on the road north of Vanhoover.

Trottingham: Having no sure clues from the show, I took the fact that this was the ponified version of Nottingham (north central England) and put it roughly in the same general location (north central Equestria).

Whinnyapolis: Put it in roughly the location of Minneapolis.

Wonderbolt Academy: The surroundings resemble Rainbow Falls, and it would make sense to place such an important pegasus location close to the main pegasus city of Cloudsdale.

Yakyakistan: I just put it in the far north.

Yonder Mountain: Mentioned in Apple Family Reunion, but not placed. Now, I wasn't going to pass up a Wander Over Yonder reference, but where to put it? I decided that to have a "Yonder Mountain", you had to have a place to stand so you could point over yonder at it. So that's why I put it opposite Smokey Mountain.
