Description This is the story that introduced Shev into the main Nova Trek Universe. She wasn't originally created for the graphic novels. She was originally introduced in a trio of short stories that were spin-offs of "Guardian's Child". I liked how well she worked in those stories and wrote this one special to bring her into the series.
She hit the deck running and she's never looked back...

Wait till you get into books 5,6 and 7.
Shev fit into the series a lot easier than I thought she would. She and Tam both just took right off.

interesting!
I like the staging, the camera and the composition (lighting etc.)
I dislike the frame, the FX sounds are not perfect (except for page 18). that's mean you can improve your art, your baby.

page 7 : i don't understand the messages (overlay) : 'for the stranger...' 'back in 1836'...
is that a 'robot voice'?
page 13 : care I give you some advice about FX (sound) ?

Page 7- That's Jan's music playing in the background.

Page 13- I admit the sound effects probably could have been better.

What do you mean by "the frame"? The black around the panels? That's standard on all my books.

'message overlay':
you can improve that, you know?
for example, add music icone, another font etc.

FX:
the FX in page 18 is the first one which is good (hope my English is not that bad). you are able to do the same about the others effect.

The FX: The sound effects were all done the same way. That's the way I've done all 10 books so far. And I admit that the music could have been done better, made clearer. But what's done is done. That book was first posted on the internet 4 years ago. Nova Trek has been an on-going project for 8 years- and has another 3 years to go if there are no more equipment and/or program problems. I hope that I've managed to improve things with each book.

"The FX: The sound effects were all done the same way. That's the way I've done all 10 books so far."
so, and now? today? are you gonna improve your art or keep the same?

If you have an idea for improving the sound effects, let's hear it. This next story has lots of sound effects.

Oh, yeah. It was a good thing she and Jan were friends, especially on the first day on the Bridge, and in front of two Admirals, even. LOL. I could understand Shev's distrust of the ship's computer, though. It didn't have a very stellar reputation, at the time. (pun intended, completely. LOL)

Uncle Frank wasn't too crazy about the idea either- and even then, Jan wasn't totally sold yet herself. But she had to make a decision.

There really was no "real world" situation for a test. Obviously it could handle day-to-day operations- but then so could the M-5. The question was, how would it respond in a crisis. Like Jan told it in "Guardian's Child", it's not in a lab environment now. Now, almost everyday brings a new crisis and this one was it's first. How it performed here, at Starbase 98 would decide whether it stayed or not.
Clearly it passed this test- and it was a good thing it did. I don't think the crew would have lasted at the "Battle of Starbase 98" without it.

I noticed that, too. Uncle Frank almost stepped in, and as Admiral, he, at least, would have gotten away with it. I know, too, that Jan was having her doubts, but, up until then, the ship's computer was cooperating, and it had said, when she and Spock had come back from their honeymoon/vacation to visit Sarek and Amanda, that it would obey her orders just like any other member of the crew, Jan knew that it was time for the computer to 'put up or shut up', and this would be the ultimate test, although why she didn't do it before then, was what puzzled me.
