It has maneuvering thrusters. No major engine systems. It was never designed for long-distance travel. You control the thrusters to maneuver away from the damaged ship or base and you wait for recovery. I know. We're not talking NG here. This is basic survival. If you have a copy of "Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" you'll find the model's based on the design in that book.
