Hey Meadowknight,

I used to have two ferrets. Seeing these two going at it, brings back nice memmories.

The do far better in pairs, they keep each other warm at night, keep much fitter because of the playing.

Also they really bond together, when one of the two died of old age his mate died a few days later.

Have fun with your lovely pets.

Greets,
D

They are very cute. Since you got a boy ferret and a girl ferret are you planning on having lots of baby ferrets?

Thanks !

And nope, NO baby ferrets. ALL ferrets are fixed before they're given over to pet stores (just ONE of the many reasons the CA ferret ban makes no sense, lol). Both these little cuties are fixed. Only extremely well educated breeders can breed ferrets, they're fragile creatures in allot of ways (another point that proves the ban is founded in ignorance XD).

They'd be a great pet as my boyfriend is alleric to cats and he's not really a dog person. Too bad I couldn't get them zoned as therapy animals
I can be allowed a dog because of my seziure disorder but won't because we live in student Dorms. And I don't have the time nor space to properly care for a dog right now, plus all the wildlife outside. Not the best place to walk said dog.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition . Yeah, I think ferrets could be a great idea for you guys! I bet he would love it if you two got ferrets, they require more maintenance than a cat but not as much as a dog (I think, I have never owned a cat because everyone in my family is allergic but me XD...and we're more dog people). It's tricky being in CA, but very doable. Petsmart carries ferret supplies, and I know of a website that ships to CA ferret owners . If you have any questions you're pondering, please feel free to ask me!

Thanks for the info, we're about six months to a year from moving so we're going to hold off on any pets till then. But when we do move(still in Cali) I'll keep ferrets in mind. Thanks for all the info.

^-^ Yeah, thing is, I still live with my parents, and my mom's allergic to dogs, and my dad's allergic to cats, and my sister's allergic to everything........ Then recently I found out I was allergic to dogs AND cats..... T-T Hmmmmm....... maybe I'll get a rabbit, yeah??

Meadowknight In reply to DizzyLizzy101 [2009-12-29 05:40:00 +0000 UTC]

I have good news! Ferrets are hypoallergenic!! people who are allergic to EVERYTHING can have them, I'm dead serious. My aunt Dawn has severe asthma PLUS allergies of all sorts (to almost every type of animal including cats and dogs, plants, everything). She's owned up to 4 or more ferrets at a time...in her house (ferrets are house pets!!). It's not just her though, if you look it up online it will tell you the same . Some people are allergic to rabbits...and in my humble opinion they're boring pets, expensive, shed like mad, smell, they can bite and claw...and yeah, need I say more? XD We currently own two rabbits, they're cute...but not worth the trouble to me (they're my sister's pets not mine, I would never buy one). Bottom line though, nobody is allergic to ferrets! And in many ways they're lower maintenance than a dog, but will make you laugh and smile just as much ^_^.

I would definitely look into ferrets, and I'll happily answer any questions you have. I have about 10 years experience owning them, and I've done allot of reading on em too! If your folks haven't owned pets because of their allergies, this could be really great for them. Ferrets are very playful and affectionate, and not too difficult to care for if you know what you're doing (just takes some basic research and asking questions to people who have had them or have them). Feel free to ask me about them even if you're not able to get one/two any time soon ^_^. I love talking about them so I don't mind at all.

XD Cool!! I used to have a rabbit about 5 years ago, but he died because of a stupid mistake my parents made-- We were painting the house, and kept moving him from room to room, when we should have just given him to my grandma till everything was done. So I woke up one morning and he was dead. T-T Last pet we ever had. (first real one-- the other seven were fish....they all died, too...)

Hmmmmmm........ Ferrets are cute, and sound like a lot of fun, so I'll take a look at em.

Aww...I'm sorry about your rabbit . They can be sweet pets, we had a floppy eared one named Mushroom when I was a little kid. That bunny was very sweet, and gentle. At least the poop is easy to clean with bunnies XD. At the time that bunny was the perfect pet...ferrets are just more interactive how a dog or cat is.

Hmmm. If you DO get a ferret, make sure your parents are willing to learn about them too! No offense but it's never a good sign to read or hear "they all died too..." XD. As long as you're responsible and can provide what's needed...then you'll all be very happy with your next pet .

Haa, I think I just have to get one when I move out-- the only pets my parents are willing to keep are the ones my extended family own. We'll either have the family over, and they'll bring their pets, or we'll dogsit for them. It's okay as long as it's for just a short while. And my dad's a big guy, so he doesn't like the idea of small animals that can accidentally get stepped on.

RyanMcMurry In reply to Meadowknight [2009-12-31 05:39:05 +0000 UTC]

ya she did.
He was VERY well trained... but she kinda "ruined" him in that way since after awhile he had the run of the upstairs and went to the bathroom wherever. :-/
He did pass away but from adrenal problems I think...

Meadowknight In reply to RyanMcMurry [2009-12-31 12:58:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...they ARE hard to potty train, lol. What seems to wok best for me so far is..wherever they tend to go, I'll put newspaper or a litter box. I'm going to read up on it more though, see if there's any other helpful tips.

Most ferrets pass away from adrenal problems, it's the curse and sad side of owning them . Both of mine before these two were put to sleep because of adrenal related health problems when they got older.

Kits, kind of like what baby foxes are called. Do they do better in pairs? I had a rat for two years and learned(the hard way)that I should have gotten him a friend.

Meadowknight In reply to Samsunflower1232 [2009-12-29 05:48:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah they DO fair better in pairs...I sorta found out the hard way ...but not quite because both ferrets we had lived around the common lifespan for Marshall bred ferrets (the only breeder available this far west, but I read they're improving).

Ferrets live to play. Which means they need allot of attention. For the almost 6 years I had Spike, I've been at home ALLOT, and when I wasn't, USUALLY my family could give him attention. I did notice he would get bored allot though if I had a project I was trying to finish or I was gone too much and my family didn't get him out enough during that time . I did my best, but ultimately he would have been much happier with a playmate. MOST people say having more than one is best, and having three is ideal, because when one passes away, the two remaining still have a buddy.

I've only had these two since Saturday, and I can already tell this is the best way to go. I was at the mall all day, and knew they had one another. Earlier Zeppelin eyed me throw the cage bars...but then Daisey pounced him and initiated play XD. They always have each other when I'm busy. Some people say this increases their lifespan too....I have to say I believe it after observing just a couple days with these little guys.

I used to have 3 ferrets, now im down to 1 but i still give her all the attention i can and play with her whenever i can, she has an entire room in our house to herself with tons of toys lol but i wish i had to money to get another couple babys, im super jelous of you, take care of em!

Is there any way you can adopt another ferret to keep her company?

VashUG In reply to Meadowknight [2010-01-04 04:20:03 +0000 UTC]

not in my current situation i keep her at my parents house while im in college so i cant really just go buy another one and expect them to take care of it as well, if i could have animals in the dorms i would totally let her live with me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meadowknight In reply to VashUG [2010-01-04 10:23:31 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... I see.

Maybe ask your folks if they would be willing to look after two? If you live in a dorm are you ever really with the ferret? That's a shame...because I can tell having two...after living with (owning) just one every day they are much happier paired off.And Spike never was attached to another ferret since he never lived with a buddy. Not trying to make you feel bad, but your little girl must really miss the others . How old is she?

So you can't have ANY animals in a dorm eh? Not even small ones like ferrets? I've never stayed in a dorm, must be an interesting experience.

yep no animals some people get away with fish, and reptiles but its frowned upon. her name is chewy, and shes about 5 6 years old she was the oldest of the three and the strongest i guess
