The second helmet I've made, this time for a commission for Halloween! Now with craft foam ears and hair! The commissioner didn't want to deal with a traditional wig, so she asked me to make one out of craft foam and showed me a picture of someone else's cosplay. Now, I don't really use craft foam usually for anything more than a stripe or a small detail, so this was a interesting project. I tried several different techniques, trying to replicate the other cosplayer's work, but I really couldn't make it work. So intead I cut many, many, MANY little spikes and layered them inward over a cap I glued to the inside of the helmet. To get them to curve, I simply pulled them over my thumb several times, glued them down, and then painted them on a gradient. Craft foam isn't the way I wanted to go, but I have to say I do like the end result.Midna's helmet from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, made from pink insulation foam, paper clay, craft foam and a plastic disk.

What did you make the actual helmet out of, may I ask? I've been looking for big blocks of things to sculpt for cosplay with little to no luck.

I actually used sheets of pink insulation foam. I just cut them up and put them together with wood glue, then carved it down

My girfriend is a big big fan of twilight princess. Mainly Midna, and this is the most amazing thing i have ever seen. is there a chance you could make another one? First i'd like to know how much you'd want for it of course, hehe.

A midna Helmet actually. Yours is brilliant and sure you are sick of making them by now, seeing as I am probably not the first to ask. (I am really bad with proportions and my helmet came out terrible)

NICE. And I LOVE TWILIGHT PRINCESS!!! 8D Lol, I almost didn't notice you had added the ears onto it. XD Now I'm just wondering if there is anything I can ask you to do for me. It wouldn't do me much good other than to look at the end result, but unless you can make swords, I doubt it would do much good to ask anyway. XD

I'm talking make swords that at least look real, instead of like they are made of foam or something. Like with a shiny plastic blade or something. I don't know. XD You can look at my gallery to find a few of my sword ideas. Lucky for you, I usually draw simpler designs for my swords, since I like them to look more majestic and practical. And I'm not that good at tons of detail. XD Still, nearly every weapon I design has some sort of backstory or reason behind it and its design. For example, I came up with a katana recently. I called it Tarnish. To be honest, I came up with it because I thought the word Tarnish sounded like it would make a cool sword name, and the blueish-black color that sometimes occurs in tarnished silver would look cool if an entire sword blade was the solid color. It wouldn't look like tarnished silver since it would be one solid color, but it would have that color to it. The sword is special in that its physics are reversed. It grows dull the longer it is left unused, but each time its edge strikes something, it sharpens just a little bit each time. Eventually, although it wouldn't be able to slice clean through metal, it could at least leave small cuts in other swords if one manages to sharpen it enough, and at such a point it would be also able to cut clean through a tree with one swing (or at least through some thickness of wood XD). I haven't drawn it yet, and I don't really plan to since the idea is so simple, but I still have other designs in my gallery and even some I haven't posted yet that I would love to see become a reality.

I can't figure out what it is. But I don't know what "Midna" is... guess I need to see it in context. My ignorance of the subject matter aside, the artwork and craftsmanship looks incredible. I am particularly impressed with the depth of the paint job.
