-Kemo-

Legend tells of a young, kind man known as Kemo who implored the Sun for the ability to help his fledgling people. Through the Sun's generosity, Kemo was granted the ability to use great magic. With his new found power, he helped raise crops, brought rains, and kept the monsters of the wild at bay. He was honored as a great hero.

Unfortunately, the power and praise slowly began to consume Kemo and his heart grew dark. More and more, he began to use his powers for his selfish ends and eventually became like a tyrant over the people who had looked up to him.

One day, as he strolled through his ill-gotten lands, he came upon a joyous traveling bard. The bard did not seem to fear Kemo's power.
"If you are so great, why don't the trees bow to you?" The bard quipped.
In anger, Kemo stretched out his will to the surrounding forest. Tree trunks bent and buckled and a great section of the woods bent inward toward him.
Still, the bard was not impressed, and said again, "If you truly are as great as you say, why doesn't the river bend at your whim?"
Again, Kemo surged his power out to the nearby river. With great effort and strain, the mighty column of water shifted in its banks and began to flow backwards.
Still, the bard only laughed. "If you are truly the mightiest in the land, why don't you outshine the sun?"
Furious, Kemo called upon all his reserves. His body hovered in the air and glowed with unimaginably intense light. It was too much for even he to handle. His body was burnt to ash and the tyrant Kemo was no more.

This is not the end of the tale however. Within the afterlife, known as The Ethers, Kemo's spirit learned to regret his selfish actions and lamented. He begged to the Sun for one more chance to set things right. In its infinite mercy, the Sun heard him. Kemo was returned to life, but there was a catch..Until he could atone for his crimes, he would be bound in a form that was half Soltec-Half Husk [see my gallery for the monster].

To this day, Kemo's name is invoked by travelers who dare risk a journey at night or through hostile territory. He is seen as a protective spirit despite his monstrous appearance. Some claim to have even met him, walking along the old forest paths, wrapped in a hooded cloak. Those who have claimed to have spoken to him say that he is a somewhat sad, but friendly fellow.

Ooh, he sounds a lot like my character "Topi" in that last part. Makes me think Dr. Sydney would be hiding out in the woods just to see if he's real or not! *Laughs*

Wow sweet coloring man! I'm AMAZED you didn't reupload this or something to get it more attention.. that coloring looks like it was hard work!

The shading is totally spot on, and the highlights especially on Kemo's husk form really stand out and look beautiful! I love how you shaded his ruffled clothes, they look totally correct, I also really love the shines you put on the gold pieces.

Yes I remember the Husks.. I LOVE the Husk story! ^^

Such a timeless type story. I swear I've heard something like it somewhere else.. not completely like it of course. I like how to the Soltecs, the sun isn't just a life-giving star.. but it's actually personified as an aware god-like being. Do they actually believe that it is? They've been to space so obviously they must know the science behind that it's just a star.. but are they worshiping more .. the energy the star releases? Like that the energy is a spirit? I'd really like to know more about this religion of theirs.

I absolutely love Kemo's portrayal on the left, the whole 'side of the head' profile look is always awesome for authority figure pictures and this expression looks so stern and confident. I love how his robe goes over to cover part of this other self.. which I really think needs to be colored personally. I think a picture of a Husk just doesn't do it without the color contrast of their Huskness..

To Soltecs the Sun itself isn't their god. Rather they see it as a physical manifestation of the god, but anywhere near its true nature. the sun god has no actual form, at least one mortals can comprehend. xD They also see other stars in much the same way. With so many stars spread over the universe, to them it represents the sun god's omnipresence. I'm actually working on a picture to explain this whole story.

Artwise, this is looking really good. It's not always I find pics like these to work well, having same person standing up next to himself even to just show off more forms of same character. But you got it working really well here and I just thinks both forms of Kemo is looking great. We see the arrogance in his ruler days, and his regrets when half Husk hoping to repay for his sins

And storywise, it's even better. Man you got lots of ideas for your race here and you work with them well ^^

Whoever that Bard was, he clearly had giant balls of steel.

Also, epic backstory, I love the fantasy feel to this and I also love the character designs. DO A CAMPAIGN WITH HIM
