Description EDIT: I was told at SDCC 2008, that this cover never saw print as it was supposed to. I found out later that wasn't true. Also the original art mysteriously disappeared while in the hands of the company owner, Jeff Kaufman. Along with many other originals that we artists were never reimbursed for (which was in our contracts). Never work for a lawyer, folks!

PENCILS BY ROB DORIA
INKS BY DIANA GREENHALGH

One of the covers for issue #5 of the new vampire series Tempest from Big City Comics. Tempest #5 hits shelves March 2008, and starts a 6 issue run by artist Tommy Castillo.

This was my last cover ink for 2007, and my first for this series. Since this was in Previews last month I figured it was safe to post.

It was done entirely in crowquill except for Tempest's hair (brush), the fur of the werewolves (brush), and his belt buckle (technical pen).

Had quite an adventure getting it sent in, from pulling an all-nighter to traveling to the US to ship the cover because it was a holiday in Canada (so Fedex wasn't shipping there) so that it would arrive in time to be coloured and lettered for the Diamond solicitation. I was awake for over 36 hours.

Materials:
- bristol board
- brush
- crowquill
- technical pen
- ink

Tempest is copyright Big City Comics .

About $12-15, and it'd take 1-2 weeks to arrive from Canada to Germany.

The owner of the label is a lawyer, he knew all the loopholes to screw me over. But thanks anyways, that was a year and a bit ago so I've just given up on it. The label has gone under anyways lol.

Weird stuff like that happens all the time. I've done production/line Art professionally for over A decade but there are no words that convey what you feel. The same thing has happened to me on two comics, A Roachmill cover I colored and three interior pieces I did for Captain Harlock I still have the contracts for both So at least I got paid for them; Hopefully you did as well.

mechangel2002 In reply to EdGarcia [2009-08-02 22:21:51 +0000 UTC]

Well I was told it was being used, even after the book came out (they claimed they just didn't have it in stock when I asked for comps). Then the owner stole a bunch of originals from me including the cover.

Wicked pencils. Really loving the details on the werewolfs fur (and fangs too). I imagine it takes some patience to get through all that.

Very talented.

lol, sorry. Not all that attentive, or that knowledgable when it comes to artistry.

I take it the inks are the right side then. Is inking about refining the pencils?

mechangel2002 In reply to AngeloftheInfernal [2009-03-10 20:33:28 +0000 UTC]

Embellishing, refining, and enhancing

mechangel2002 In reply to maddinkk [2008-12-27 01:48:47 +0000 UTC]

Actually it doesn't -- but all I have is a crappy bitmap scan of the page that someone at the office managed to get for me. Someone stole the original, so I don't have a nice, high resolution scan that's not pixellated.

mechangel2002 In reply to lollies-pop [2008-09-03 21:37:17 +0000 UTC]

Well what happened was it was a holiday in Canada on that particular Monday and I got it late and inked it from Sunday afternoon to Monday morning. The publisher was in the US and I was in Canada so I had to go across and ship it there because it had to be overnighted and Fedex Canada wasn't shipping until Tuesday. I had fun inking that though.
