Description
I'm quite a fan of ID Software's FPS games and I'd like to show you my collection. You can see I've got 2 copies of Quake 4. Why? Well, here's the story- first I bought the regular edition (top right corner) which is German edition and it's heavily censored. For example it completely skips the stroggification cutscene, which might be a little bit confusing. I'd understand if they'd cut the most disturbing parts of it, but they shouldn't rip the whole thing, since it explains why the heck you look like Strogg in the next level! That's why I bought an english one, this time it's the special edition, which also contains full version of Quake 2 with both expansion packs, plus artworks from the game. This version is damn cool.
I'm very proud of being owner of game 'that started it all' the granddaddy of FPS games, the one, the only, wolfenstein 3D. I replaced the Xplosiv edition cover with cover from some big box edition.
Where Wolf 3D has set up the formula, Doom has perfected it and became the most famous FPS of all times. According to the strategy guide I've got, in Czech republic Doom has spread out much faster than the newest version of Windows, and all because one simple word- multiplayer. Now that is truly amazing! I've got my hands on so called Collector's edition, but it should've been called Doom anthology rather than that. My point is that special/collector's edition always contains aditional content like artbook, soundtrack, action figures, etc. Well... to my knowledge some copies of this Collector's edition contained a sneak-peak video from Doom 3, which was back then still in development. Why this one doesn't have it (it's no even mentioned anywhere on the cover) is anyone's guess.
Doom 3 is basically a remake of Doom and features one of the best grapics of its time. ID tech 4, aka Doom 3 engine was around for 5 years, that's quite impressive. My complaint- the final boss, the cyberdemon is an insult to it's Doom 1 and 2 counterpart.
And now comes Quake 2- one of my all time favorites. The gameplay is still good, the controls are smooth and the soundtrack is candy for your ears. On the other hand, the AI has truly aged a lot- the enemies are plain stupid. As you can see, it's the only big box ID game I've got, also I keep Quake 1 in the same box. Oh, I should've mentioned that Quake 1 was the first FPS that was truly in 3D.
Return to castle Wolfenstein is good, but hard game (except for the bosses, they are absolute joke). And Wolfenstein, damn, why couldn't they name it RTCW 2? It's confusing because it looks like it's supposed to be a remake of WOLF3D, but it's actually a sequel to RTCW. It's also very good, but it has become really distant from the original concept of Wolfenstein. It's like if you took RTCW and Prey and put them into blender. It doesn't feel like Wolfenstein anymore.
Last but not least- Enemy territory: Quake Wars Special edition. I bought this one only because I was curious, I don't really like multiplayer games.
All games mentioned here are (c) ID Software

That's Enemy territory: Quake wars. It's some sort of limited edition, so the cover is a little bit different.

Agh, I envy you!
Where I live, there's no way to get that original stuff, unless you're some kinda millionaire. Otherwise, you need to go pirate... truly sad, but there really isn't other means to get 'em.
An Old-School FPS fanboy like you doesn't know Zdoom and Skulltag?. Shame on you!
Well, you better update, then. There's some really hot stuff going around right now in the Zdoom/Skulltag community. Ever heard about "Brutal Doom"? Makes Blood look like Mario Bros.
Check it out, I'm sure you'll like it!

All of them are previously owned copies and they were really cheap.
Look, I've basically played the games and shelved them, because honestly the replay value at least for me is very low.

Ah, I see. I've never played any mods for Doom or Quake, or any ID game, so that's why I haven't heard of this

He forgot to mention that Zdoom is more of a actual software mod instead of a new "game" or a story of any kind, it introduces particle effects and allows mouse aiming, IE up and down as well as allowing you to jump. Also improves the resolution a bit. Once I went Zdoom, never went back

Cools, I might plan and buy back Wolfenstein for PS3 because I still got the voucher from my local game shop so I'll use that then and get it on Friday. Then, I can showcase my ID Software collection very soon.

You know ID software actually made a series of adventure games called "The Commander Keen" series, which are perhaps the only non-mature games ID have ever made.

They are available to buy for a small price on either 3Drealms website or on Steam. I recommend you at least give them a try since they are really good fun games.

Hooray for singleplayer PC gaming!
And I liked Wolfenstein 2009. (And I found a secret hidden bonus in the config files of you bought the game from best buy, even if all it does is spawn a flamethrower during the first stage)

I liked it too, but there's something about the game that just feels wrong. I've also noticed that in the Church stage there's a guy who's model is identical with model of Hans Grosse, the only difference is that he's got mustache. This makes the game looks a bit cheap.
