Honestly I thought they were put together so whichever rat got the special powers or whatever could use it on the other rat right away....

I don't know if they planned on giveing them such powers..It looks like more of a 'side effect' thing..Why else whould they give them that while the rat was awake, and leave his head open like that? I guess we'll just have to find out, though..XD
