Description
Title says it all really.Well not quite... I've been watching Farscape and obsessing over the puppets/animatronics. Particularly Pilot.
Because bugs/crustaceans are fun.
But also, on my animation course we’ve covered the (neutral) bipedal walk and now I’m moving onto four. And once I’ve done at least one of those I want to try something a little bit more…challenging.
Hello, six legs. :U
These are just concept sketches and some rough working out of the motion (ant). Not finalised. But when and if I ever bother trying to animate this guy (I may use my own insect/tardigrade character instead – Hyzarth) I’ll probably post it on my other account.

omg PILOT!!!
This brings back so many awesome memories! I was big into Farscape when it came out, and Pilot in particular - I consider it (and him) my first true taste of fandom. It was just so unique to have not one, but two NON humanoid aliens as a regular cast members. And I love doodley speculation of any sort, particularly when it comes to biology - so to find some for one of my ancient favorites is a real treat.

humans never get the anatomy right, especially farscape, the head, chest, and back is right. but not the bottom half. they have only two legs that are digitigrade and jointed. they usually only have two arms but can grow a second pair if needed. they have a lobster's tail which is very long to balance on such legs. but this by far is the closest and best picture of them anyone had made.

they are actually highly evolved lobsters, i will post my anatomical drawings soon, this very close in some way.

Now that is a cool idea for the pilot lower body. I really like it.

Gorgeous!!! This completely works with what we know about the semi-aquatic nature of pilot's species.

Thanks! I based some of it off of a mantis shrimp.

Wait. WHY are there no comments? This is fantastic! Incredible! WONDERFUL! Seriously, my hat goes off to you for attempting to draw Pilot as a whole. I love this.. I ean, you barely see his bottom parts. (I'm thinking that The Way We Weren't is the only episode you see him like that? Let me know if I'm wrong.) I can't stress to you how much I love this. Ten favourites and the internet cookie go to you. !

Aww thanks! I'm so glad someone finally said something I was beginning to wonder what people thought... drawing Pilot is fun regardless.
Hmm I think there is one or two other episodes. Like Bad Timing possibly... I can't remember much either I should probably re-watch the series.

You see his species full-body in the graphic novel "Red Sky at Morning." >w< I squealed. Also, joined Pilots lose their tails. ;m;

Oh yes! I've read that. o3o I'm not sure how canon that is though since they didn't have those spindly insect legs in the comic but they do in the TV series. But hey, it's all sci-fi fun so why be overly critical? xD

Yeah. I've sort of hybridized the two designs. Since Rockne O'Bannon wrote the story, I'm going to call it canon and blame budget and time on why they never delved further into Pilot's anatomy on the show. Gotta admit, I adore his tiny legs in the tv series. Sometimes I wonder if his legs ever fall asleep since he's sort of just hanging in place. XD
One of my favourite things about si-fi is how malleable the creative process is. Unless Rockne and Brian Henson write me themselves and tell me that I'm wrong and need to stop, I'll keep doodling him the way I do. <3
