Description
"Dioptic manifold clear."Early prototypes of the Prism tank used surplus M46 and M47 hulls, fitted with an experimental oscillating turret that reduced the overall dimensions and target profile of the vehicle. The combination proved successful and promising, despite limited energy output and prism weakness to all but the smallest caliber weapons.
Later variants fitted a stronger prism to M48 and M60 hulls, boasting a significantly more powerful energy beam.
A more plausible take on Red Alert's vehicles. And a tribute to one of the first strategy games I played and the countless hours invested.
The full project is detailed in the Journal entry below!
Project Showcase: Red Alert 2 Combat VehiclesI remember Red Alert 2. I remember waking up early on Saturdays, firing up the computer and playing a couple skirmishes, mostly messing around and massing units for large attacks. Mind you, I was pretty terrible gameplay-wise and couldn’t even complete the campaign. Didn’t stop me from trying!
At some point last year I got to idea to pay homage to one of the cornerstone RTS games that I played when I was really young. Given the array of alternate history vehicles that I had drawn up to that point, the slightly more zany designs of the Red Alert universe were not much of a stretch. And thus the project began.
I had initially thought of a single idea for a piece, and then over the course of several days other ideas poured in and reached the 5 pieces, which were completed over several months, and I limited myself to those 5 rather than let my mind come up with more and extend the project’s completion. One of the things I pushed myself to do was incorporate the background

Kind of interesting thing is, the Tesla tank's model seems say it used to be a captured Patton series.

Why not do a very badass vehicle
the apocalypse tank

Hm, I can't think of a historical Soviet tank that might fit well to serve as basis...

My suggestion for the apocalypse tank is:
the IS tanks
that is all I can think of

Yeah, the IS-series would pretty much be the only option outside of going with something weird like the Obj 279... but then again I think it would be too challenging to top this design, so I don't think I'll be doing a Mammoth or Apocalypse anytime soon:

I'll have to think about it.

A more realistic take on the vehicles of Red Alert eh? I wonder if Imperial Japan's vehicles would get the treatment?

I'm afraid that I don't have anything planned for them, sorry!

I don't blame you, most of them are quite too far fetched to be made "plausible" less they become "In Name Only" types, especially the mechas Japan uses.

Ha! Well... that... and never having actually played or followed RA3, so I'm not really familiar with its units... :/ And yeah, there are not many real world mecha lying around, much less historical ones, that I can think of!

Oh, I see...well it's still interesting for you to do something like this, especially when EA isn't doing anything for the C&C franchise and I can really relate to that (especially given my experiences with the franchise in question).

"Focusing light energy."
That does seem like a cool take on the creation of this unit. Makes sense the Allies wouldn't really have time to field a brand new chassis in the middle of a war (also why it's such a glass cannon, and not more armored like its Tesla counterpart...)

Thanks! The game renders suggest a highly modified IFV, though for what purpose it would need an exposed front gunner remains a mystery. Plus, the whole point of my series is to adapt real-world vehicles into the RA2 universe.

A periscope tank?
It took me a while to figure it out and I haven't quite did it well...it is an "Dioptic Manifold" Tank? Or is that thing actually used to "reduce the overall dimensions and target profile" of the tank? A prism tank?
Anyways, this drawing looks incredible, the tank looks real and the colors are very nice. What kind of pencils did you used?
UPDATE: a quick Google and I found out the C&C wiki; turns out this tank is used to set structures on fire, amazing

Ha, seems like it's a curveball for those not aware of the game. I used an actual quote from the game, hell if I know what that treknobabble is supposed to mean. I have never heard someone use manifold and optic in the same phrase, they are in totally different fields! Or maybe a laser technician might correct me on that, I dunno.
The reduced profile simply refers to the fact that since the whole prism turret much narrower and shorter than a regular Patton turret, there's less to shoot at up there...
I mostly use Crayolas, with a mix of odd Laurentien and Prismacolor here and there.

I'm looking for paiting pencils, really good ones

Yeah, I feel like that's a path I'll have to explore at some point, because blending colours with what I have doesn't always have the desired effects, not to mention that it can get a bit tedious!

Sure...I've tried paiting something with my old Faber-Castell's...It didn't turned out like I wanted, but the colors looked nice. It was the way I painted for sure, never been a fan of paiting
