Description Well, I'm no expert on comics, but I do know that there are certain comic layouts that are easier to read than others.

Anyway, I don't have much to say here at the moment, since I said most of what I already wanted to say in this tutorial. Enjoy.

Thank you for writing this. My brother challenged me to write a comic. I have attempted previously but would often have difficulties with the layout.

This is great! What program do you use to make the layouts?

I just use Photoshop, but it doesn't really have a function specifically made for layouts or anything

This tutorial is great. I kind thought the thing about panel layouts was true, but I didn't know if it was bullshit I made up or something other people believed. XD Whenever I look at awesome scenes in comics, 90% of the time the panels are just plain squares. It's the composition inside them that looks cool. So, I decided to lay off the trapezoids panels, lol. I hadn't thought word balloons that much though. Thank you for the awesome tutorial!!

(late reply, whoops)
Thanks, I'm glad you found it to be helpful! Though to be fair, if you want to add some dynamic flair to the shapes of your panels, trapezoids can be a good way to do it. It's just important to make sure that readability and functionality come first, before you focus on adding a dynamic punch.

No problem! I'm glad you found it helpful.

Also, if you want to do research for writing graphic novels, I highly suggest you read Scott McCloud's "Making Comics." Seriously, it's one of the most helpful books I've found on the topic and it's entertaining to read just for fun, too!
