Description
a REALLY rough quick tutorial on comic panel layout.its not terribly indepth but , i dont think tutorials should be. should be jsut a foot hold on the mountain climb of learning.
basically only discusses fonts and timing.
but ya, it was kinda a tricky one to do, because despite the fact that i took a comic production course, I havent done comics in a good long while.

Thank you for the tutorial! It is very well thought out and helps explain the concept behind comic paneling nicely. I can hardly wait to try it out!

Ahahaha, nice. Think I'll give it a whirl sometime. Always wanted to, but generally went crazy at the amount of things to do. This is step by step, should keep me from getting distracted

Good advice! I particularly like the part about having different character designs. I Hate having to recognize a character by hair. If it's dark, or there is a costume change, I have to ask questions like, "who is that? OMG! He's cheating on his wife? Oh...that IS his wife!" hehe
The thumbnail idea is good too

heyy, this is pretty sweet
it's better than normal tutorials that tell you stuff you could have figured out easy on your own. I like how you added ideas like zooming in on a menacing object, and how people only remember flashes from action scenes

Slightly embarrassing, but I don't think I ever considered making a rough pre-sketch before working on the main project. Lots of good, practical tips in this tutorial. And I'm actually glad you didn't go into TOO much depth. I'm all for artists figuring out the fine details themselves... Sometimes all one needs is a little nudge in the right direction... something you did rather well here.
A fine example of teaching a man to fish as opposed to giving a man a fish.

That's a very interesting guide I'll try to use this lesson later when I try to make a comic on vacation. (The typos bothered me a bit though cuz I'm a grammer (sp?) freak >_<

What's a BG? and what do you mean by establishing shot? please help out!

gurukitty In reply to Akiharo [2008-08-10 06:00:27 +0000 UTC]
BG= background
Establishing shot is a panel that will show where the scene takes place. Establishing the setting

Thank you so much for making this guide about making panels.
I know what you mean by trying to arrange boxes in an interesting way. Sometimes, I overlap them to make the comic flow more... Is it too distracting that way?

Nice tutorial. While I read it I had a vague feeling of 'I knew that,' but actually having someone tell me it in words helps a lot! Plus it was funny to read.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who has funny looking thumbnail images.

I'll save it just in case. I draw comics myself, but I never have the free time to do 'em.
