Description
A mockup of how Mappy would look using the multicolor low-res mode of the Commodore VIC-20 computer from 1980/1981.
Do note that if the game actually were to look like this, movement would be rather choppy.
This is due to the fact that the VIC chip that the VIC-20 uses for graphics and sound (and is what the system is named after) cannot scroll, does not have sprites and can only define 3 colors plus the global background color for every 'text character' (read; tile) on the screen.
To have smooth movement, either suffer through a slightly watered-down version of the ZX Spectrum's colorbleeding or make all tiles on-screen have a uniform palette, such as in Ms. Pac-Man.
The effective resolution of the VIC-20 is usually 176 by 184 at best, albeit displayed with a large border around the viewing area. With low-res/multicolor mode, it is more like 88 by 184.
It seems to be possible to mix the two modes together in some form, though that's more common on the Commodore 64.
