Asa is many things. He is vibrant and flamboyant and a lot of fun to be around. He is highly strung and friendly almost to the point of annoyance. He’s a dog who has never heard the word ‘no’ in his life, and he selectively refuses to hear it even now. He’s a free spirit who highly values freedom and a lack of rules. Asa can be impossibly charming and suave, a real smooth-talker when he tones things down, but for the most part he loves to live fast and hard.

Asa is also an outrageous flirt. Males, females and anything in between- you don’t even have to be a dog! Asa is charming and friendly and he will shamelessly sweet talk until he turns blue.

Of course, all of these things can and usually do work against him. More stern and stalwart dogs think of him as annoying as hell (which he definitely can be). He also does not know when to shut his mouth. More often than not that mouth gets him into trouble, and he can always find himself in the thick of any bad situation. Asa is a dog who continuously bites off more than he can chew, but trying to convince him to dial it back is impossible. He has perfectly selective hearing, and he takes what he wants to from any conversation.

Pre-Group History:
Asa’s conception was not planned, to say the least. His mother, Roslyn, is a pet doberman with a sweet and devoted personality. Asa’s wanderlust comes directly from her. A family dog with an adventurous streak, she found a way out of her home in the suburbs, wandering the streets for several months before she was finally picked up by a dog-loving couple with several rescue dogs.

Asa’s father was one of these- an elegant and suave afghan named Ferdi (Ferdinand), who soon found himself in the company of a lovely lady.

By the time Ros’ family came to pick her up, the deed had been done, and in nine weeks Ros gave birth to a litter of three pups. Ros’ family quickly found homes for all three pups, and Asa found himself living with the niece of his owner. A young girl who wanted a pet to keep her company while she was away at college.

Needless to say, Asa’s young life lacked rules and limitations in any form. He grew up with three college-age girls who happily doted on him, painted his nails, tied his silken hair up in fancy buns and ponytails, and fed him every scrap they didn’t care to finish. He was the center of attention, constantly swiping treats from counters, charming pizza slices from the hands of his ‘harem’, but a small dorm is not the place for a growing dog…
He was relatively polite and well-behaved, but he always longed to run and be free. Occasional visits to dog parts or quick jogs around the campus were never enough.

Eventually, his girl’s first year of college ended, and she packed up her things and planned her long voyage home. Without a car big enough to transport herself, all of her things, and Asa, she arranged for a pet courier to transport the mutt across the country and back home. Unfortunately, Asa didn’t make it that far. On a routine potty-break, Asa overwhelmed his handler and booked it, taking his chance at freedom and running with it.

In his mind, he’d run wild for a while, live it up, and then his girl would pick him up and take him home. He had no idea what he was really in for, but he wasn’t looking back either way!
