*sighs wistfully*I am... SO very happy with this...
I've been nursing a lot of different pictures, but I PROMISE I'll bring more to you all
After re-reading Les Mis and having since been married, certain musics have been in my brain and inspired this little piece.
It doesn't happen in the book or ANY adaptation, but it's a FEELING that Valjean has in the book... often his contemplation and moments of thinking and pondering so much his brain hurts take up a chapter or so... basically, the author loves to portray how much the poor guy squirms...
ANYWAYS!
Valjean's (adoptive) daughter is now married to Marius... obviously, he didn't like the guy at first because... dad reasons lol...
But the part he struggled with most was knowing he'd have to let her go due to his past... it doesn't matter, all the good he's done... as an ex convict, he's a social pariah if the truth is discovered; it pained him to lie to Cosette, pretty much her whole life,. but he did it to protect her... well, now... in his mind... she doesn't need him to protect her anymore... and he can't bring himself to lie anymore...
Also, that bandage on his arm? Well, it's the last lie he had to tell. He feigned an injury to his hand so he didn't have to sign the marriage document... because if he used the name he had been living under, that'd be a fake name, and thus would nullify their marriage... if he used his REAL name, then that's the name of a convicted criminal... and would also null the document.
The book describes her as his life line near the end...
So, I liked to imagine Cosette would convince him to dance with her (and he'd be all awkward because he doesn't do social stuffs
)... and he'd well up while dancing with her... she'd think it's 'cause "Oooh my baby's all grown up" and she'd be comforting him; telling him she won't be far and how he can stay with them and all that jazz 
When in reality, he's welling up because it hits him (in his mind) that in order for her to lead a happy life free of burdens and lies... he'd have to let her go

Oh gosh, this is just precious, and absolutely heart-felt!! It's such a pure moment between the two, and the look of love that Cosette gives him, contrast with Valjean's realization, really make this piece, and it just gives me all the feels!! (You also had me tearing up while I was reading that description omg)
On a side-note, i've been away for so long that I must've missed the wedding news, and I just wanted to give you my belated congratulations! I hope marriage has been all that you've ever dreamed and more!!
