I finally got this done and am actually quite happy with it...
This is based of/inspired by themes and emotions addressed in the anime version of Les Misérables... that being that, even though Cosette was rescued from her horrible house of abuse, all the emotional pain from that and how she sees herself wouldn't just go away overnight... the book DOES address how protective and motherly she is to Valjean in her later years, but not much of her as a child in terms of personality... except she was kinda jumpy and apologized a lot...
Geeee I wonder why

So here, she had a nightmare about Madame Thénardier; about to whipped/beaten/whatever, and apologizing, begging for mercy... when she wakes, Valjean is there to comfort her... the guy knows how much it can hurt to not only have dreams like that, but have them rooted into memory, which makes them more painful and lasting...
But he's these to remind her she's safe and that it's ok to cry (which is something she'd get smacked for if she so much as sniffled before )
I had a lot of fun with the lighting and expressions here

also, I didn't realize till AFTER I started colouring all this that... I drew Cosette in her full mourning outfit that Valjean got for her... meaning she fell asleep in that Ahh let's just say, like me, she got too tired to change into her pajamas... YEAH THAT WORKS!
