Description Remember how I did a reaaallly quick tutorial for this technique on my old account? Well yeah. I revamped it now. Much clearer to see, hopefully no spelling mistakes like the old one, and just.. yeah. Looks MUCH better, and will be easier to work off.

Not so much to say on this; this is a technique I wouldn't be able to live without though so.. I hope it helps you in the way it's helped me ^^

Enjoy!

It worked as a charm thank you ! ♥
But I have a question !

So here it is, is it possible to use this trick (or a different one) with a colored drawing ? I want to make a background for one of my drawing but I can't because it's like, white :/ And obviously, I don't wanna go over the character color again.

Hope you can answer, I've been searching for a week and haven't found anything yet thankyouuu ~

This sadly doesnt work for coloured drawings in my experience. Your best bet in that case, would be to either:

1. Manually erase the white background, create a layer under the character and colour that in. (To erase parts of what would be the background layer, you may need to go to the "layer" window where it lists your layers, and double click on background layer. A window will come up saying "Layer 0" - click ok. This basically means the white background wont be locked in place anymore and you can erase it properly to a transparent layer.)

or,

2. Look up how to use masking layers. Unfortunately I dont really know anything about masking layers, but I'm sure there will be some great tutorials out there on using layer masks - this may be able to solve your problem in a different way (for example if you create a mask above your character, then whenever you paint on it you will paint normally around the character but the mask won't allow you to paint over the character, if that makes sense. Like I say I'm not master of masks so I'd advise you to look up tutorials on that!)

My recommendation would be to try the first method but thats only because I know that works.

... I hope what I said makes sense / helps! Let me know how you manage

Really glad this tutorial helped you, its a really great method!

It's a wicked resource, cuz its so useful!

The Quick Mask thing is for better selection. You basically colour in what you dont want to select, then switch back to normal mode and everything that you didn't draw on gets selected. =] Tis useful!

Thanks, glad you find it helpful ^_^

Heh. Ive never got the hang of the mask tool, I must say xD But if I'm wanting to fill certain areas, I generally use the lasoo + fill tools, or the wand + fill tools ^_^ :3

XD I miss the old colours D: I mean, they're still there but there's no continuity? Like, userpages don't match the deviation pages and it annoys me greatly.

TTLY. I know what you mean. And totally agree >< I DO like how clean and light the deviation pages are but they just dont go with the rest of it. It ttly irritated the hell out of me. xD Maybe version.. what will it be.. 6? will have matching ones -____-;;;; T.T;
