I agree and but I think that it is because of what the western society's idea of "becoming a man" is. Women can be infinitely more shallow than men can. Because they not only judge us on our looks, but on how much money we make, how respectable our job is, how we dress, if we have a nice car or not, whether we have our own place or not, whether we have any ambition in life, etc, etc.
Maturity comes with age because as you get older your brain chemistry changes. Boys will become men, and girls will become women, but whether they live up to the unrealistic standards that each other clings onto of the idea of what it means to be a woman or man for them remains to be seen. Men have it the hardest, we are not only expected to do everything, we also aren't allowed to show emotion without being viewed as weak (well now they call it emo, but the people in my generation call it being weak).
It is true that women my age rarely share my interests or have much in common with me, and are probably more mature than I am mentally, but that's one of the perks of being a man, I can always date younger women
