Description
HOLD UPWhat's so precious you hold on so?
so terrible you cannot tell?
Hold back,
if you must, though I would share the pain
as well ask my portion of the joy.
Hold back,
if you need, though I would never claim
a greater part than you would give.
Hold back,
if you fear, though I am often told
a lonely hurt hurts more alone.
Hold back,
if holding holds you still;
Hold back,
though holding's holding still;
Hold back,
and while you're holding on,
hold on to me, and
I'll hold on

This is my life in a nut.
No, not a nutshell. A nut.
Beautiful work, as usual. I love the simple strength you convey, the longing to share if only the other will open to you. Simple, but effectively lovely.

Thank you ...
... my mother always used to say "sweet as a nut" I know what she means, now.

I'll pretend it was a compliment. Thank you! ^^

No need to pretend ... it was a compliment. Sweet you most certainly are!

I had a damn good comment, then devart had to go maintain itself! *curses*
It was about the inevitable truth of ourselves. The past, the sins, the mistakes, the flaws, and the endless shame of it all.
This is a beautiful poem. You were able to convey the gist of human insecurity and the wonderfulness of human connection. Great job.

You know... I realize I commented before... But as always, the rereading makes it sweeter. This is so poignant and turns the wheels of my memory, searching for how these phrases can be true...
They always are.

I thought I already commented on this.. Then I realised this is a re-write of the original, as well as a re-post. Commented on the original here: [link]

I love how each stanza holds you up and makes you read it, it just sounds right when you read it aloud.
And the barriers...the things we hold up because we think we need to...oh this is so appropiate for me right now...
i'm adding this to my fav list if you don't mind...

How you can capture such a natural human emotion in your words is simply amazing. The very theme of this piece parallels a theme in my life.
Maybe thats why it brought me to tears

It's not often that a poem combines such truthful emotion with the elegant grace of simplicity. I'm impressed, and appreciative.
I'd like to see more like this.

It's quite the most gentle and understanding poem on a subject that is not spoken very often in poetry. This is written beautifully, Mike.

you captured one of the idiosyncractic moments of human emotional behavior
youre either the type of person who can relate to this, or not...
