Description
Here's my latest Graphic Novel project, which I hope people are actually seeing, since I hear the DA submission glitch is running rampant again. We had to adapt a few comic pages from a movie script and, being entirely predictable, as indeed I am, I went with Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire.These guys are kind of one of my all time favorite couples, so I was thrilled to have an excuse to draw them. Oh Louis... why do you have to be so tsundere desu? SENPAI FINALLY NOTICED YOU, JUST GO WITH IT!
...Anyway, if you haven't read the Vampire Chronicles, go do so. You won't regret it. I actually have a few more volumes left to go myself. And before anyone points out that it was Louis' younger brother who died, I was just following the script, in which it was changed to his wife and daughter.

Thank you so much~ Yep, that's exactly where it's from! This scene really grabbed me too; it had so much emotional weight between Louis and Lestat and moved quickly enough that I could squeeze a fair amount of action into a few quick pages.

I haven't read that book in the longest, but damn if they did a graphic novel, you'd be top pick for the artist
These guys are the archetypes for the "sympathetic vampire" genre because they were the first. Anne Rice rekindled people's interests in the immortal bloodsuckers with her vampire series.
Twilight? TOO MUCH MOPEY TEENAGE DRAMA
If I was a real life vampire and saw those movies, I'd stake myself XP

Thank you so much~ Weirdly enough, they actually did just make a graphic novel of it from Claudia's perspective: [link] I just received my copy the other day. It's super pretty.
The artwork is actually in a similar stylistic vein to mine, though it's far more refined and resolved. xD
Yeah, one of the many superiorities of Rice's characters over Twilight's and those of much of the other hokey vampire drabble out there now is that she actually managed to write characters who are both convincingly human and inhuman at once rather than just painfully uncharismatic people who just so happen to be vampires. I think what blows my mind the most is people who are able to read and enjoy both Vampire Chronicles and Twilight. Just the fact alone that literature as good as Rice's and as poor as Meyer's exist in nearly the same genre almost makes my head explode. xD

Ooh, interesting.
But still, I gonna be a little biased and say I like yours better X3
I actually found an old memo i wrote to myself of an idea for silly comic idea featuring Louis and Lestat.
club president Dracula and a bunch of other known vampire characters (like Carmilla, Count Orlof from Nosferatu, Alucard from Hellsing, Louis & Lestat, Frost and Morbius from Marvel's Blade, Cain Knightroad from Trinity Blood, etc.) are all getting ready for an official meeting for the Bloodbanker Club and start off by introducing 2 new members.
Suddenly they notice something suspicious about them and someone yanks at their hair to reveal it's a wig.
*random vampire character*: It's Edward Cullen & Bella!! D:<
*other random vampire character*: Get them!!
They then show Edward & Bella being tossed out of the club.
Dracula (as he gives him the boot): We told you guys before, NO WHINY TWILIGHT VAMPIRES ALLOWED! >:/
Edward (pointing a finger at Louis & Lestat): What about Louis and Lestat?!
They're can be just as mopey as we are!
Louis and Lestat (speaking seperately or in unison): Maybe so, but WE don't SPARKLE. XP
I can't believe I forgot about that idea XD

Really? Thank you!
Haha, you should do it. I know it's kind of a cheap shot to mock Twilight anymore, but goddamn, is it still satisfying. It's sad that for even as flouncy and effeminate as Louis and Lestat sometimes are, they still vastly out-man Edward even on their sappiest days. XD I had a parody that desperately wanted to do too, but never found time for. I wanted to draw Lestat chewing Claudia out of Louis' stomach as a satire on the ludicrous vampire birth scene in Twilight. XD

You are welcome
Oh, I'd like to, trouble is I don't have a scanner to work with and wouldn't be able to submit it on DA.
Everything I've been submitting on here recently was captured via webcam and drastically cleaned up in GIMP to make it look as presentable as possible XP
Don't know HOW long it would take to try and use that method to clean up a mini comic like that....-_-;
Again, those guys were the archtypes for the genre, so their mopeyness can be overlooked.
Cullen and the rest in that book series? Not even close.
I actually shook my head and sighed when I heard on the news years back that a 40-something year old woman stole a life sized cut out of one of the male main characters from Twilight (I think it was one of whoever the wereolf guy is)
...chewing a baby out of someone's stomach. Is that something that actually happened in one of those movies?? 0_o;
Eeeeewwwww...>3<;

Yikes, that does sound like a pain... I know how that is. I don't currently have a working scanner either, and I had to photograph some larger traditional works for school. I was borrowing my brother's $400 camera to do it and the goddamn thing was still too much of prima donna to take a half-decent photo even unless the light was just so and even then it took tons of Photoshop to make it somewhat presentable.
Oh man, I never heard that story about the cutout. That is indeed pathetic... xD During the heyday of Twilight's popularity, my mother was always complaining to me about all of the 50+ year old ladies whom she works with that were reading and discussing it nonstop in the office and kept pestering her to read it.
I am not even kidding about the baby thing, though I desperately wish I were. The whole setup is so ludicrous... It's something to the tune of Bella gets pregnant, which is incredibly stupid to begin with, and because the baby is a vampire it's made a sort of hard protective shell inside of her uterus, so the only thing that's able to pierce it to deliver her are vampire teeth. Try to look up a summary if you can because the bullshit logic used to explain the circumstances of the pregnancy is hilarious and full of gaping holes. xD

Well, I can sympathize with you. Just keep in mind it could be worse: you could have to do it the way I've been XD
50+ YEAR OLD LADIES WERE READING THOSE BOOKS????? Oh dearest mighty in heaven now I AM depressed.
I can respect the sympathetic vampire genre, classical vampires, and also whatever genre you call it where the vampire is nothing more than an apex predator (like in that movie "30 Days of Night" or whatever the title is, though admittedly I'm too big a ninny to watch movies that are too explicitly gorey and violent).
But still, Twilight is just...sad and wrong XP
It certainly made me take back my opinion about me thinking that the actor who played Edward was a little bit cute (I'd seen him before as Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire).
MAJOR buzzkill when I recognized him from that OTHER movie series; I couldn't take my words back fast enough.
I'll be too happy when they stop making those movies.

I can't even imagine being able to justify reading that at middle age. It would be embarrassing enough to read it at mine. It's okay to have guilty pleasures, but at least have the decency to be reasonably ashamed of them. XD
Honestly, there's nothing wrong with being a bad writer like Meyer. A lousy writer can't be expected to realize how much they suck, but what's really frustrating is when tons of people exalt their drivel as literary genius when it so clearly isn't. XD I'm more disappointed in the publishers for accepting her work and the general populous for consuming it when there are so many more deserving writers whose works are glanced over in favor of her sappy mush just because it's accessible.

Midniteoil-Burning In reply to Meiseki [2012-12-19 16:42:39 +0000 UTC]
I don't read those sappy romance novels.
I have 2 fantasy romance books, but that's only because they were birthday gifts from 2 different people whom I care about, so I take care of them the same way I do my other books.
Sadly most big bosses in the entertainment business in general (which, as a major bookworm, I say that reading qualifies) are more concerned with making sales than making people think.
Otherwise they wouldn't be churning out so many crappy movies and have like a minimum of 1 or 2 good films a year.
Sure, there are moments where it's nice to indulge in something that is total nonesense and to just go along for the ride, but I think it's important to watch, read, or listen to something that causes you to think, too.
I realize this is getting off tangent here but the optimist in me likes to think that if they focused just a tad more on the plot for that "TOTAL RECALL" remake instead of investing so much in it being in 3D and all those other special effects, it probably wouldn't have bombed so badly.
That's why I don't think any attempt to remake or add a sequel to the "Blade Runner" movie will not do well.
