I’ve been having some fun lately trying to design what a reboot of the TV Show Code Lyoko would look like today. Tried to give it a more vibrant and cartoonish look while keeping the vibe of the original characters. I also worked a bit on the shape of their faces and eyes so that they all had a distinct appearance. I think it ended up with a 90ies look though as a whole.

We’ve got Odd with a kind of urban/roughed-up look and bleached hair (it was either that or a non-binary kind of character, which I’m keeping as an option), Yumi as more of a social justice warrior (which I think is like the modern-days equivalent of the goth character trope), Ulrich with a darker skin tone to add diversity and because I thought it could be interesting to work with a bi-racial kind of character (especially regarding what this might imply with his relationship with his father), Jeremy wwith a more current “nerdy” look including a hoodie à la Mr. Robot and Aelita with a more absent and boyish look, to reflect her original aspect as an AI. I liked adding her traditional pompons to an accessory (her bag) instead of her outfit.

Aelita was the only one I had time to create a 3D-model for but I’m kind of happy with the result ! I still have a lot to learn in this area obviously but, outfit-wise, I tried to keep the vibe of her original elf outfit while incorporating some of the modern aspects of her two other avatars.

Other sketches of characters from both the original show and Evoltuon are spread across the background ; I wonder if you’ll be able to tell which is which ?
