Description I decided to make a tutorial again! It's how I colour in Photoshop.

It might be a bit confusing with the magic wand tool, but I guarantee you, that step makes colouring SO MUCH EASIER!

So yes, I hope you guys get something out of this tutorial :3

And the lion is Nala, and i'll post the full pic of her sometime soon...once I figure out what BG to slap on.

I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
Inverse? INVERSE!? I could've saved 4 hours for all the drawings I drew without INVERSE.

I followed the steps but after I've done the magic tool it won't let me colour on the colour layer? Sorry if I'm being dumb haha XD

I found out that if you use the tool on the inside of the lines, then it workd

hi i like the tutorial but my hand is so unsteady when i try draw the lines around the stetch is there anything i can do about it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

melleh In reply to rielgh [2010-11-10 20:50:10 +0000 UTC]

When you're drawing, try moving quickly rather than slowly, quicker strokes make the lines smoother.

bonitalatina45 [2008-12-02 23:51:02 +0000 UTC]

very helpful! just one question, will this still work if you add the shading before you change the outline color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

melleh In reply to bonitalatina45 [2008-12-03 01:02:01 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, in fact it works better because then you can pick a colour that's darker than the shading, so the outlines show up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bonitalatina45 In reply to melleh [2008-12-03 01:54:09 +0000 UTC]

ok good. because ive had this problem in the past and i dont know why. I have the whole outline( already in color) on one layer and a different layer for each part of the character (eyes, etc.) below it. so then i make a new layer below the outline but above the color and when i use the soft round brush which gives it a nice soft look for shading, it changes the color of my outline, but the outline layer is locked. like for simba it makes the outline really orangey and it sticks out because its really orange next to the dark of the shadow. so i hope your method works!

uh I got a little quastion what if the lines are on the background? Do I have to duplicate the layer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

melleh In reply to Twilightmia [2008-08-08 08:27:22 +0000 UTC]

Do you mean if you did the lineart on the background layer? In which case...I'm not sure what to do about that, sorry D:
