Description
at school we do art and for art we did etchingwe all had to find a black and white image or A4 size.
i loved the original photo so much that i chose to do the etching of it.
it's really beautiful and has been comented on through out the school (ok so it was among the art teachers but shhhh)
it has also been chosen to as the promotional artwork to my schools art exibition!
OMG AHHHHHH THATS SOOOOO COOL
i worked my but off on this etching and the results where better than i was expecting. this is my favorite piece in my entier gallery.
even though it's only the plate.

This is amazing!!! My art teacher said I should do etching for my assessment piece this term, so I was wondering, the photograph, did it have tones or was it straight black and white? Another way of asking is was there any grey in the original photograph? I am asking this because my teacher said I should take a picture of one of my shaded drawings and then make an etching out of it.
How did you get the shading in an etching? I've never done etching before, so I don't know much about it...

it's a beautiful etching, it looks more like a pencil drawing then a print

Youve done really well, i like the way youve applied lines, and how they are used as building blocks for the image, its quite beautiful observing this close up.

stunning. I've never managed to get to this level... How long were the darkest parts in the acid? At the end i allways have some blindparts

it was a dry point etching... i didn't use acid hence the dark parts it's a hell of a lot easier and you have more control.

Wow, that is a beautiful picture for inspiration! and you've done it justice and more.
i'm wanting to do etching for my art class, and after seeing you're impressive piece, I was wondering if you could tell the proceedure you used, or refer me to a website that explains it, or whatever, because i don't know how to etch, but i'd like to give it a try...
Your help would be invaluable! Keep up the great work

Well, it's a dry point etching. Using a sharp etching tool and thick acetate. (The plastic stuff)
It's very simple, but the more time you put into it the better it will be.
It's just like cross hatching only instead of making the plastic darker, like it would be with a pen on paper, you'll make it lighter.
You know when your etching is done because the plastic will look like an inverted version of the original Black and white picture that you've chosen.
I did that in an art class, so my teacher told us how to do it. It was a while ago so Iβm a bit rusty.
My best advise is use flat acetate instead of rolled, coz it's a bitch to work with.
Choose a black and white photo that isn't too difficult (has a good ratio of black and white)
Before you start etching ensure that you stick the acetate to the photo.
Iβm pretty sure that any art website can give you step-by-step instructions that are better then mine. However Iβm willing to give you tips if youβd like.
Please notify me when itβs done. Iβd love to see it. Good luck.
I'm sorry that i'm not much help

no worries
it's a dry point etching, so i used a black and white picture, some asertate ( i think thats how you spell it), and the needle. then i use normal oil paint.
