Description
"Portrait of Catherine with Pomegranate and Sparrow" is the full title of this image. This was a commissioned portrait for [link] For more information on how I can make you a portrait, visit this link as I have a special offer for Deviants [link]
For the record, the stock used here is either my own, taken by myself or in the public domain (for instance the dress from medieval painting by Hans Holbein the younger, called "Portrait of Jane Seymour")
Textures for the wall are from [link] , that allows royalty-free, private or commercial use of its textures.
It took me 75 layers to make this >_< My PC was seriously taxed teeeheee.
I really like the way this turned out

Technique:
This was created using digital collage technique that involves the layering of many photos and textures and much brushing over, to create a new unique image. Essentially its like good old fashioned collage... only it's done in photoshop, and extensively repainted.
Many photos are used - a single face can be composed of several photographic features.
Stock is artist's own or released on the creative commons.

You're amazing! I would so love to learn how to do this kind of work. You have a certain look and feel to your creations that speaks so clearly, and delicately. It`s very nice.

I don't know if there are any tutorials I could point you to as to how to digitally collage - for me it was a completely intuitive learning process. My best advice is to experiment in photshop with several photo elements till it all gels well.
