Description
Seems like I actually managed to finish one of the many personal paintings that I have started over the course of the past weeks and months, whenever work allowed. This one began as a tiny ballpoint sketch in my sketchbook...and developed into a little more work than I had originally anticipated. Partly because I wanted to paint this one without using any photos or textures. But I had loads of fun, and I hope you will enjoy it as well!I will probably upload the print next week. Am looking forward to hear what you guys think. Much love

Again, your painting tells a story. First I notices the cabin, which looks inviting with it's warm colors and rays of sun. Then I noticed the waterfall and the birds above, thinking that I'd love to stay in a place like that, wanting to know what else hides in this paradise. And then, after looking a few times at the suspicious shadow, I had to admit that it's a hanged corpse. Immediately I again started to look around the painting, trying to find clues to what has happened there. Little by little, details emerge. A blue scarf, chickens on the yard, a fawn...
The contrasts you've created with colors (yellowish brown / blue, dark / light) is striking, as well as the difference between the clear sky and dark, intimidating forest. You really know how to handle your light, and I love the way you painted the water! It look very realistic!
Overall, this is a good stor- painting. One that makes the viewer think and want to know more. Stunning!

Thanks once again =] Hehe yeah they definitely are corpses, I'm afraid Is it bad that I was chuckling while painting them?
Your detailed comments definitely brightened up my rainy morning, thank you

Chuckling while painting corpses? No, I wouldn't worry, unless you start laughing maniacally. Then I'd be slightly upset.

I like the texture on the roof of the house, and the leaves also seemed to take a bit of effort for this. I love the light blue feel of the sky, though the mountains seem a bit cartoonish. I like the texture on the water and the trees that seem to be hiding something behind their trunks, providing mystery inside the image. Very nice. Your shadows were good for the house, and it provides an ancient and nostalgic feel to the portrait itself. I also like the fawn you put in the background.
The only thing I'd recommend you to do is to make sure that your idea hasn't been used a lot. I feel that it would benefit you if you choose another color besides blue in the corner to tie the scene together. Other than that, I love the master piece.

Hey, thanks a lot =] You are definitely right, the mountain does come off a little cartoonish. I was concerned with this while I was painting, but I felt that adding any more detail or structure than that would have pushed it forward too much, and I really didn't want it to compete with the cottage or waterfalls. Nonetheless, maybe there is a better way to solve this!
Thanks for taking the time to have a thorough look at the piece and for putting down your thoughts so detailedly =]

Where to begin?
This piece is truly amazing, I must first say. The contrast between the hanged figures and the serene scenery is very striking, and is added to by the light tones and sunlight on the the cabin and the dark shadows under the trees (which I suppose could be construed as gallows!).
There are so many small things which make this work inspiring, in content and style. For instance the blue rag on the right, the waterfall in the background and each offshoot from it, the mountain, the wheeling birds, the way the roof has sagged on the building: each one tells a story, or, at least, hints at one, and allows the rest to the imagination. Obviously, something terrible has happened here, but what? Executions, maybe? Joint suicides? Bandits?
And the colours. Wow. It's all so alive with individual tones, from rich browns to the palest blues.
All these things make this artwork so utterly awe-inspiring as to almost be real.
Although, I suppose I can't be all-praising, which is a pity, but a real challenge. I think that the only thing I can say is that maybe it is a bit cliched (sorry there's no accent on that :L). What with all the modern fantasy novels and films, which, I believe, stem from Tolkein, this type of scene seems to be over-used somewhat. I cannot say that you have copied anyone else, as the originality of this work is clear, I just lament the way so many things nowadays seem to be like this: almost all digital art I have seen of this calibre has amazing background landscapes, a serene feel, a rustic ambience and a darker side to it.
But this is just a minor point. Aside from this, I honestly cannot find anything I dislike about this piece, and for it to have come from a ball point sketch is fantastic!
Keep up the good work!

Classic! Is that a tiger at the water's edge?! Love how the straw roof gives it an old worldey or tropical flair.. I can't decide. Nice leaf brushes But why the hidden hanging? It's so jarring! I guess that might be the point.

Hehe thanks, Gracie! That would be a tiger with some veeery skinny legs
And yeah, that jarring feeling sort of was the point. I wanted this contrast between a scene that is inviting at first sight and creepy at second =]

I haven't read the comments so maybe you answered this already, but what's with the hanging corpses? It seems out of place in the painting

For me it is actually the one element that made the painting sind and gave it a twist that I really liked. =]

Oh wow! lol I first noticed the house, and I thought, "Wow. I would like to just chill there for a few. Then, I looked to the left, and I saw all the dead people hanging. Then, I was like, "Maybe I don't want to chill there after all." I do like how you have the contrast in light; for example, the right side is shiny and inviting as the left side is dark and scary. The detail is wonderful in here, and I do enjoy this whole ensemble together. Wonderfully done.
