Firstly, I have never actually seen the 1922 movie Nosferatu, but I have have always wanted to, and the imagery from it is strong to say the least.

I am a big Dracula fan, and have seen countless versions of that. Nosferatu was, of course, a blatant rip-off of the Bram Stoker novel, with just a few names changed along the way. Also it is probably the only version that shows Dracula, or in this case, "Orlok" to be as grotesque as he appears in the book.

Hopefully there will be a backlash against T******t, and vampires will be returned to their quiet dignity of the gruesome, blood-sucking undead, rather than lovelorn sadsacks who sparkle

Really diggin' your personal characterization on the Count here. Even that classic shadow hits the nail on the head, nice work

Thank you, I enjoyed this one, I've been meaning to draw him for a while.
It seems since Lugosi, Dracula is always a debonair love god, but this film shows his true colours as an unpleasant old parasite. Although the BBC Dracula of a few years back showed his 'older' version as pretty disgusting XD

Now that's a vampire! Awesome rendition of the classic movie monster- it may be an old silent movie, but it is SPOOKY when watched alone on Halloween

Me, too- also, unable to cross moving water and with weaknesses to sunlight, holy water, religious symbols, garlic, and stakes, not to mention an array of shapeshifting abilities (y'know- old schoo!)

Cool- hope you like it. My big sister and I watched it around Halloween last year; we got too scared to take the trash outside

Its a great movie!!! You should really see it!! I actually just watched it yesterday for the far-too-many-th time haha, my friend turned me on to al lthose German expressionism horror films a couple of years ago. Some other great ones are... 'M', 'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari'. You should see them, theyre great. ANYWAYS,, after my rant...awesome piece. You never disappoint

Wow thank you!
I watched a lot of the Universal horrors of the 1930's years ago, but I never saw the films that came before, like Nosferatu etc I've always liked the Nosferatu imagery, though Thanks for the recommendations, I'll look them up!

gruesome vampires are the best vampires! I have to admit I can't really stand vampires anymore, and it's all Twilight's fault (I love how you censored the name xD). That's right, that load of shit actually managed to weird me off. I was never that big on vampires, but I did enjoy cool stories like Bram Stroker's Dracula or Nosferatu, and I loved Buffy. Now if I see the word "vampire" on a book or a DVD I put it back on the shelf without even reading the rest.

moving on, this piece is awesome! I love what you did with the shadow, this is all very expressionist german (yes, I saw the movie. at school. during german class!). the long arms are the best part xD

They showed a silent movie in German class?
I know what you mean though, I was always more into the classic Dracula story than generic vampires, but now a certain book/film series has kinda reduced my interest in vampire stories XD
Anyway thank you, this was fun to do, I'm glad you like it

yeah. it was just to show us something german. "look! this is german stuff!!do you feel the german awesomeness???!!!!1!!one!". also, the teacher paused everytime the words were on screen and made us translate. I didn't enjoy it very much then... I'm so sorry, Murnau.

me too, it's not like I ever read Anne Rice or... I don't know, other angsty vampire stuff. but at least their vampires didn't sparkle. how did she even come up with that?? it's so lame I can't find the words. I borrowed the copy of the first book from a friend years ago, when it wasn't so famous, and I thought it was like a bad fanfiction xDDD

It's definitely a creepy silent classic. There was also a good movie with John Malkovich and Willem Defoe called "Shadow of the Vampire," which is a fictional account of the making of Nosferatu: [link]

It was watching that film, and not the original, which inspired me to do this actually! Also with Eddie Izzard! It really sold the film, and reminded me that I hadn't ever seen the whole thing

Nosferatu definitely stands the test of time well. It's still a wonderfully eerie movie even today. I actually watched it on Google Video a year or so ago. It's very easy to find online.
Ah the old days back before vampires having lots of charisma to make slaves turned into...what Hollywood and incompetent writers have turned it into.

I know, right? Aren't vampires cool enough already without making an entire generation think that they're ?
I've seen so many old horror movies of that era, I just managed to miss this one It is also on youtube, but I'm going to hunt down a DVD or something

Love it! Nosferatu is a very good movie, as old as it is, it's still just as powerful and creative as it was when it was made.

It's been on my 'to watch' list for the longest time, I'm going to see if I can find it reasonably priced somewhere
Anyway, I'm glad you like it, and I had a feeling it would be your kind of movie

Oh same here, I have my eye on numerous figurnes, but most of them cost a fortune! There's one Joker bust that I absolutly ADORE, but it costs a good $300.00
My favourite classic movie has to me 'The Man Who Laughs'

memorypalace In reply to Jackolyn [2011-03-01 00:17:05 +0000 UTC]

That's another I've missed, I've been curious about it ever since I learned that Joker was heavily 'inspired' by it, in his looks at least.
They do know how to charge, my local shop has a Harley statue, maybe 10 inches tall. Β£99.99!

Jackolyn In reply to memorypalace [2011-03-01 00:46:12 +0000 UTC]

It's in my top 10 for sure, I love it
And that's no surprise, there's some beautiful statues out there, like the Joker one that I absolutly ADORE: [link]
And a Harley one to match [link]
The price however...I don't adore as much.

Not the mayor, the business-man. Burton is a big fan of german horror-films from the 20s (you can see it in his style) so he named a character after one of his idols.

Movies like Cujo and The Birds (both originally books by Stephen King) were good, and if they tried to remake them, Cujo would be too huge and have too much blood, and the birds would get inside the buildings by pecking at the windows.
