Special thanks to:
For fixing script!
For building an awesome Engie workshop!
Engineer on MvM is one of the most important (if not THE MOST important) class. Playing as Engineer requires a great knowledge of the map and chosing right spot to deploy buildings, so it's far more responsible and experience-demanding job than on a normal tf2 mode.
Of course, that also makes every Engineer get a crap thrown at them. The little mistakes they make affect the whole team and may even lead to a failed wave. But the said "mistakes" could also be the whole team's fault. Too many robots passing by, no help with robo-spies or robo-engineers - this all leads to destroyed buildings or Sentry Busters deploying in the middle of the team.
And of course there are those kind of people that think they know better - they're yelling at Engineer to put his buildings in ridiculus places, not even thinking what kind of the result it may bring, while being under a constant fire. And "obviously", if the plan fails, the blame goes on the "unskilled Engie".
In this comic part Sentry wasn't even put in the focus, because on MvM DISPENSER is the most important building. It provides the supprt for the whole line of defense, both by healing and giving a quick access to ammo. And this is crucial for classes like Heavy.
If you gotta move and grab one of your buildings or you have to quickly start a new setup, DISPENSER will ALWAYS have to be your first choice.
About upgrades - Doesn't matter on what mission you are, the very first thing you upgrade is 3x DISPENSER RANGE. You may not feel it yourself, but this thing makes a huge change in the team.
The next things you need is at least one point into Max Metal Capacity. This way, you'll be able to start building both Dispenser and Sentry without a need to search for ammo crates.
Depending from how much money left for upgrades, you have to get as many Building Upgrade Canteens as you can. You will need those like an air on the first few waves, when your buildings are fragile. (In the heat of battle, there's no time to build your stuff with a wrench. That's what canteens are for.)
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT SENTRY
( Thank you )
"Buying that 3rd Sentry Firing speed upgrade does literally nothing.
In case you aren't aware, Sentry firing speed has been bugged since release.
The first upgrade point gives a 50% firing speed boost.
The second upgrade gives an additional 5% firing speed boost.
The third one gives nothing."
Proof
In the next comic part I am going to explain Engineer's loadout.

I main Engineer in MvM and I never had issues with teammates complaining, that I wouldn't do anything. But one time where I seriously screwed up and it was obviously my fault for failing the wave, I apologized.
Now, do you have some tips how to deal with those stubborn spawngineers? You know, that kind that of engineers, who think it's a very good idea to set up at spawn and aren't open to reasoning?
I encountered plenty of them in Boot Camp and they were silent, but since it's Boot Camp, screw it.
But in MannUp, I met right two of them. And holy piss, were they stubborn. Didn't care for explanations on how it's important for the team at the front, only look for themselves and would MAYBE only budge when the team gets angry at them. First time I just ragequitted as he just refused and insisted on spawn building (We were the only ones in the server, if I recall), but the second one? His only reason was, that he couldn't keep his sentry alive at the front (It was Coaltown, Oil Spill), would only give us his teleporters (Which were placed horribly at first, mind you) and would only go after we (A competent heavy and me) got pissy and I tried to votekick him.
Which actually infuriates me more, since it failed, like the rest doesn't care and he tried to counter-kick me. Failed too, thankfully.
Funny thing is, that because some Scouts slipped through our defenses and his sentry got them, he thought that his spot was working.
He finally decided to follow our demands and his performance improved significantly. But he could only keep his stuff alive when he used uber canteens, as he would lose his stuff often to the sentry busters.
Won the mission, but god, was it frustrating to work with him.
So, could you share tips how to deal with these players? I prefer the friendly, convincing way, of course. But what, if that guys get so unbearable, that you want to kick them, but fail, because the other players just don't care/don't know how/are oblivious to bad play?

Menaria In reply to GAZVodnik [2016-07-22 18:13:32 +0000 UTC]
There's really no 100% reliable way to deal with players that simply refuse to cooperate. People are people and they will keep on doing stupid shit till the end of times. If you want a friendly solution though, the best you can do is just pick a talk with such person, tell him stuff like "I tried it myself, and my current plan is much better than that" and so on. Basically you need to give them a proof of your plan working like it should. If they don't listen or just idsmiss what you say, no amount of freindly talking will help, so it's better to kick or leave yourself.
I personally, before teh round started I tried to give some subtle tips and commands to randoms in the team and see how they react to it. If a guy starts the problems from the very beggining of the game, then there's big chance you won't have any less of it later in the game.
And 2 engineers on mann up? That can't really work.

THX 11-38!
Naaah, was Soldier the second time and we (the heavy and me) had ammo problems often due to the missing dispenser. And I ask myself if ammo upgrades are really necessary if the engineer (hopefully) provides it.
I was friendly at first, but that guy just made me rage to a point, where I dropped the helpful attitude and just demanded his stuff to the front (Yes, it wasn't the brightest thing to do). To see, how your suggestions fall on deaf ears, just because he thinks that his way is the best and isn't open to the words of his mates, plays bad and doesn't get kicked, makes me... desperate.
Can only hope that he will never complete his first tour and get kicked everytime by players with more game sense. :/

Hey guys did you know the Jag really only increases build speed by 0.75% ? .

I know right? I heard it from uncle Dane's video about the Jag. I believe he said that 30%
is actually over the stack limit. So its really only giving you 0.75

i feel the same way as engie, but at the same time i ALWAYS upgrade dispenser range FIRST and make sure that the team gets its fair use. and yes i'dd defend it but i may end up setting my nest in a way so my dispenser is mostly safe without me being turtled next to it so the team can get its fair use.

Gosh...that Engie is soooo me...I keep telling my team to help me out but NO ONE helps me out, there's at least a FEW good Pyros that helped me out. The rest of the team just didn't give a damn, so what's the point of building Dispensers and Teles to a team who doesn't give a single f*ck about you??
Even Medics have the same problems! When they ask for help NOBODY comes to their rescue! If you want Medic to survive and the entire team to survive,at least try to protect them and heal them.
Love your Comic <333

Gotta say I do feel for the engiee when it comes to getting all the blame, especially when they do a good job on the battle-field with Telle and Dispenser placement. ^_^;
But yeah it does annoy me when Engineers horde all building's to themselves on hard to reach rooftops etc.
Even so, I'm loving this guide series you've made so far, looking forward to the spy comic as that's my personal pref, so hints and tips for upgrades beside the sapper for upgrades will be great to learn

This may be stupid, but I usually use the stock shotgun in mvm. As I find its great for defending against robot spies
And I also use the stock wrench, as I like using the good old stock weapons

Stock wrench is a great idea. The primary weapon doesn't matter much, but my recommendation is Rescue ranger after all.

Somehow, ive wondered alot, is it being frowned upon to be a combat engi in mvm? A friend of mine told me how the dps of the mini sentry is lower than the lvl 3 senty. Need confirmation plz and thanks

browser-surfer14 In reply to Menaria [2014-07-13 16:56:56 +0000 UTC]
Is it due to lack of support or the damage made by the mini? Ive been thinking of playing engi in mvm so i cant wait for the loadout guide to come by, cause i played as combat engi once then yeah... gave up.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Menaria In reply to browser-surfer14 [2014-07-13 17:00:21 +0000 UTC]
The mini-sentries get destroyed way too fast and deal close to none damage. It's only good on a normal tf2 mode, but completely useless against a horde of robots. On mvm you're barely able to get out from behind your cover, not to mention running around and setting up mini's.

Then what about combat engi that stick close to their team mates? Will there be any significant difference or will he face the same fate, died to the hands of the machines

He will definitely stay alive for longer, but then what's the point of going combat engineer if all you do is hiding?
I know from my own experience that Combat engineer simply doesn't work on MvM, nor team would be tolerated toward one.

The Engi's right you know.. It also don't help if you give them your dispenser and they take your ammo crates needed for metal as well..

Menaria In reply to RazorVolare [2014-07-13 06:35:29 +0000 UTC]
That almost never happens. If you made enough effort to search for an ammo crate, you can as well make a quick trip to the dispenser that's supporting a frontline. Speaking of - On mvm Dispenser is for Heavy. Not for engineer.

RazorVolare In reply to Menaria [2014-07-13 07:12:26 +0000 UTC]
Main reason why I use the Rescue Ranger, helps keep it alive and good for volley of crit bolts should I use a crit canteen. As for "That almost never happens." Nowadays it not too often but with me, it happens more then it should. Greedy noob bastards who don't use the dispenser, let alone protect it. I've lost track of how main times Begger Bazooka Soldiers always stole my Ammo Boxes before it's buff of getting ammo while not active was thrown in. Also, Dispensers are not just for Heavy, it's for everyone, and Medics as well. A good Medic with his "new" shield can block passage at the exit of Gate B of Mannhattan for a long time if there's a dispenser there. Team grabs ammo, Medic camps by dispenser healing until shield is ready, and BAM; SHIELD TIME. Sadly I've given up on MvM; Two Cities due to so many noobs and trolls I've been paired up. No Demos, Huntsman Snipers, you name it. I sold my last ticket after 9 tours with no good results, it's multiplayer for me until everyone not only "Manns Up" but Nuts Up as well.

Crit canteen Noooooooooooooooooo! Get a damn building canteen, private!
As for Beggars and dispenser for the rest of the team - That's just even more of a reason why you should leave the dispenser on the frontline.
And who the hell makes you stay in an idiot team? You can start a votekick or leave yourself, that's what those options are for.
I have 56 tours finished and I'm still rollin' it.

RazorVolare In reply to Menaria [2014-07-13 12:27:39 +0000 UTC]
First off, I'm not a private. I'm a MvM vet.
Second, It's always Build Canteens with me as Engi, the class no one wants to be alongside Medic which is why I'm one. I usually only crits it if it's a wave that's a pushover to speed things up or that last desperate attempt to stop 3 bombs from going off, and that one moment where I use my sentry to stop giant bonk scouts and quickly kill them.
Third, I leave one idiot team, get stuck onto another. I've been put into poorer group finds several times for leaving as well. My question is, WHY THE FUCK ARE BOOT CAMPERS IN MANN UP?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Menaria In reply to RazorVolare [2014-07-13 13:13:08 +0000 UTC]
It's because valve was so generous to grant everybody with a ticket. Believe me that there are folks that don't have it used till this day, even if they played a lot of games.
Hell I even heard people saying "Oh, I leave the mann up on the last wave. I don't want to lose my ticket!"

RazorVolare In reply to Menaria [2014-07-13 19:36:01 +0000 UTC]
Seriously WTF, "THEN WHY ARE YOU IN MANN UP MODE THEN IF YOU DON'T WANNA LOSE YOUR TICKET?!" that's what I wanna know all these Boot Camp Nubs.
If only there was a way to be paired up with more experienced players and put something like a mark on players that can't play. As much as I would like to Mann Up again for a chance to get an Australium Weapon, there just too many scrubs, squeekers, trolls, etc to complete one w/o a good team of friends, which I don't have since none of my friends wanna play TF2.

As much as I want that to happen, it's probably not. >< Would be nice tho, wouldn't have to worry about Ticket Babies, Shortstop Scouts, Greedy Soldiers, being kicked cause your a Pyro, trollish Demos (that's a story for another day), Tomi & Brass Hoovys (I would prefer Stock and Hues if they are by dispensers), being stuck as Engi each game, that God Damn Medic (stops healing you and you die), Machina Snipers (Use Heat or Classic), and useless Spys. You'd be paired up with other players with experance who know what they are doing, able to go thru all MvMs with not too much issue, and beat Mannhattan easily even before it's nerf (which I did, least 3 times before the nerf with some good randoms).

Menaria In reply to RazorVolare [2014-07-13 21:37:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh slow down mister!
Brass beast is a great weapon. It only requires mor resistance taken on start (that's also a very noob weapon, because you can't even show your skill in avoiding stuff that's coming at you), but it's one of two the best weapons. (Minigun takes the first place).
Pyro isn't useful enough on TwoCities missions. Demo/Soldier deals more damage. And don't constantly die from getting close to the robots
Shortstop scout is usually taken on the last wave of Rottenburg with 3 tanks. With his primary fully upgraded he deals a sligtly more damage then Phlog pyro.
Machina and Classic are equally "meh". Machina's buff isn't doing much of the good and Classic simply slows down Sniper. And time is everything when dealing with Ubermedics.

Brass = Easy target that even a person who is brain dead can still hit. Fucking hate it. I pref Iron Curtain/Minigun.
Pyro, in-gen on any tour, been kicked alot. Most ballsiest move I've done is airblast a chunk on Major Crits' Rockets, dealing 2/5 of his Max Health and even getting killing blow.
Shortstop Scouts In-Gen again, why the fuck are you using it and running up to a Deflector Heavy?!
Machina, Just why, Explosive Headshot is all you need on any. Also, did they patch getting Explosive Headshots with Sleeper? If not, try it.
