For fixing script!
For building an awesome Engie workshop!
Engineer on MvM is one of the most important (if not THE MOST important) class. Playing as Engineer requires a great knowledge of the map and chosing right spot to deploy buildings, so it's far more responsible and experience-demanding job than on a normal tf2 mode.
Of course, that also makes every Engineer get a crap thrown at them. The little mistakes they make affect the whole team and may even lead to a failed wave. But the said "mistakes" could also be the whole team's fault. Too many robots passing by, no help with robo-spies or robo-engineers - this all leads to destroyed buildings or Sentry Busters deploying in the middle of the team.
And of course there are those kind of people that think they know better - they're yelling at Engineer to put his buildings in ridiculus places, not even thinking what kind of the result it may bring, while being under a constant fire. And "obviously", if the plan fails, the blame goes on the "unskilled Engie".
In this comic part Sentry wasn't even put in the focus, because on MvM DISPENSER is the most important building. It provides the supprt for the whole line of defense, both by healing and giving a quick access to ammo. And this is crucial for classes like Heavy.
If you gotta move and grab one of your buildings or you have to quickly start a new setup, DISPENSER will ALWAYS have to be your first choice.
About upgrades - Doesn't matter on what mission you are, the very first thing you upgrade is 3x DISPENSER RANGE. You may not feel it yourself, but this thing makes a huge change in the team.
The next things you need is at least one point into Max Metal Capacity. This way, you'll be able to start building both Dispenser and Sentry without a need to search for ammo crates.
Depending from how much money left for upgrades, you have to get as many Building Upgrade Canteens as you can. You will need those like an air on the first few waves, when your buildings are fragile. (In the heat of battle, there's no time to build your stuff with a wrench. That's what canteens are for.)
IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT SENTRY
( Thank you )
"Buying that 3rd Sentry Firing speed upgrade does literally nothing.
In case you aren't aware, Sentry firing speed has been bugged since release.
The first upgrade point gives a 50% firing speed boost.
The second upgrade gives an additional 5% firing speed boost.
The third one gives nothing."
Proof
In the next comic part I am going to explain Engineer's loadout.

Alright. And what about ease of creation? Especially towards making some really good posters. Is it hard to learn the controls and how to move your ragdolls on SFM?

You seem to be an angry sock puppet. Well, as a literalist, you're not exactly a sock, but you can be seen as a puppet of your animator. But figuratively, I approve of how you make people LEARN. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=…

Awesome.
I don't have a phlog, I use stock flamethrower and attempt to just set things on fire with all of the upgrades to the thrower in any order. I also use the manmelter. (And before now, I haven't really put much thought into resistances...just weaponry.) Any problems with that, sir? And rest assured, I'll try out the phlogistinator when I manage to get my hands on one. (At least I just got my hands on a neon annihilator, no problems there.)

So I'm doing fine, just don't go Pyro on either city.
Is there a reason for the latter, and am I hearing the former correctly? (Former and latter in comparison to the comma.)

.......Damn, I've been playing Engineer on MvM wrong this whole time!
I normally set up my Teleporter first so my teammates can get to the front quickly. I set up my Dispenser in a safe spot where it's least likely to get damaged or destroyed by robots, so my teammates will have a place to regroup and get the ammo or health they need. As for Sentries, I set them up in a place close to my Dispenser (usually in a good spot that can bag me a lot of kills) ; the Mini-Sentries I place in hidden or well-protected spots to up the chances of my team winning a wave. There are many times when my teammates will kill an Engie-Bot, but completely ignore me when I tell them to take down its' Teleporter when I'm an Engineer on Big Rock.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, WRONG!
Teleport - that's alright. It's obvious to set it up for a fast travel.
Dispenser should be ON THE FRONTLINE. In the heat of battle there is no time for silly things like regrouping. Everybody needs this ammo NOW! Not 3 sec later.
Sentry should be put near the frontline. It shouldn't be straight on the line of fire, cuz it will get destroyed in a few seconds. Basically sentry's purpose is to defend the way from the robots that managed to pass by the line of defense.
NEVER EVER buy a mini-sentry upgrade. It's a waste of money. It's $500 for a few seconds of weak shoting, until it get destroyed. And there's rarely any time to set up a new one. The only reasonable case to buy a mini-sentry is on the maps where you have to deal with lots of snipers and robo-engineers. Like Decoy Expert. But even that is not necessary.

Um, Sir Strict? I can see you're being harsh to him considering he's being dramatic, but does that really happen to Engineers on the battlefield? I know I got my buildings blown up quite a few times during our Mann Up Mission, but are Engies really stepped on and insulted due to not getting there on time to support like this guy says?

Menaria In reply to sinjinize [2014-07-09 06:01:09 +0000 UTC]
Listen private - things like that don't happen when I am a part of the team. I MAKE SURE that everybody works in a perfect cooperation and everybody sticks to the plan. That way nobody is going to end up with complains.
But as you see, I can't be everywhere and control everything.
And when I am not around, Engineers are getting really hard kicks in the ass, son. Like that one said.

Hm... I've got mixed feelings on this: on the one hand, Engineer has a valid complaint, because if no one feels compelled to help you, why should you? On the other hand you can argue that a bigger man would deal with it and simply help his team, as it would be more productive and effective, but on the same note, if the team helped the engineer out they would likely be even more effective. So to summarize, work with your damn team, and make sure everyone has what they need.

Eventually we all get sick and tired of people complaining I suppose.
But leaders aren't always compensated with respect- and if they can't handle that, they should stop being leaders, because that's the whole point. Will you always get respect and what you deserve as a leader? No. But you will bring your team or the people under you to victory if you can handle it.

This is really good advice! As an engie main, the first thing I'd upgrade was firing speed and health. But thanks to this, I'll remember to make dispensers my top priority in Mvm. Thank you!

Well, for the work in SFM and the building of the workshop, it's great...
But as for the issues and strategies involved playing... Let's just say that it's been a while since I played TF2 (because of college getting too stressful), and all that I can remember from my time playing the "campers" of engie and sniper is that it's never as easy as people assume it to be. Yeah, I can sit back and not get up close and personal with the enemy, but whether I'm tending to a sentry or hiding behind a scope, I have to be able to react fast to any situation. In the case of an engineer, you basically have to develop a level-headed mentality in which even when things go wrong, you have to (sometimes literally) pick up the pieces and get back on track without the drama. Yes, people are going to insult you, but you have to realize that they're under as much pressure as you are from the enemy and bots. The engineer plays more of a support role than defensive, so yeah, you gotta have some thick skin...
Of course again, it's been a while since I played, so I should pick up the game more often and see if I actually have any room to talk.

Huh, I hadn't known about the 3rd firing speed bit before. Did notice that there isn't a lot of difference, but never thought too much about it.
I'll have to rework my upgrade order from that, thanks!

And yet, that engie STILL has more training sessions than me. Course usually when I do get the chance there is another who has already claimed the spot of engie, so I've never actually gotten that chance....and the only one I've been to bombed out due to connection issues...*sigh* I am a useless maggot. no need to tell me Strict...I already know.
