The problems I see with this technique:
- every color needs its layer, I don't know how you did this but I end up with a lot of layers
- when choosing a "hue" you are limited to one color, which is fine for cartoonish art, but shadows and highlights tend to twist hues, but I guess you could fix this by simply adding new hues (for example where capillaries are near the surface of the skin it gets "reder")
- limitation to black lines
But it's a good technique I tried it, after setting the color you tweak it further.

yeah it uses like a unique line of color, but the good part to work with b&w pieces is lear about value, contrast and that very helpful

brightness is the easiest to learn, saturation and hue takes time and experience. Not all shadows are simply a darker version of the same hue and not all highlights ... you get the point.
I've noticed that experimenting with hues pays of.
You should try it.
eg.
dar mid highlight
dark purplish red- red - light yellowish red
This is just a simple example, different materials act different
experimenting is the key

hey dude it's awesome, maybe i'll sound like a noob, but for the lighting is it a filter or an effect or you did it handmade all along with dodge and burn?

tu pintas con mousepen? algun consejo de q valores de opacidad y flujo debo usar para colorear?

mennyo In reply to WillNoName [2008-01-16 16:38:43 +0000 UTC]
uso tableta, pues de opacidad no le muevo mas bien la dureza o "hardness" d ela brocha, empiezo con un 5% y ya cuando son detalles hasta un 100%
